Blood Pressure and Pulse

Has anyone had problems with their blood pressure and pulse being high and "spiking" meaning the numbers jump all over the place. I haven't been feeling well and went to the doctor, they did an ECG and that was the result. They want to put me on either blood pressure meds or diuretics. I have never had this problem in the past so I am leary of going on meds. I had surgery 15 years ago but continue to have symptoms. Sometimes I assume things aren't Chiari related and later find out they are so just wondering if anyone has had trouble with this that they attribute to Chiari. Thanks!

I’m being worked up for exact that right now. You’re not alone.

Yes I have problem with both. Less stress controls mine. I don’t take my meds everyday. If my readings are good I want take it, but i am glad I have it. I get real anxious. I know my pressure is up. The insomnia has a lot to do with it. My heart or pulse rate wakes me up.

Does yr BP go up or just your pulse

Wow. Yes. My BP has been all over the place. Ive been back and for to the ER. I know Chiari cause rapid heart beat. But I didn’t know until just now abt BP!! I started meds…but ended up changing my diet and stressor. I think its under control.
Im so thankful for this site. Ive learned that Im not alone. My symptoms and little quirks all make sense now.

I’ve had the opposite problem, both BP and pulse going dangerously low. I’ve had a couple of weird episodes of nearly passing out.

I would look into a form of dysautonomia called POTS. It’s fairly common with Chiarians.

Before finding out I had Chiari I was put on meds for high bp for about ten years. Was a constant problem regulating the meds. A year after diagnosis of Chiari I found my bp going lower and lower until I finally quit all the medication. It still fluctuates but not enough to go back on medicine.
I have also changed my diet drastically. Gluten free and close to paleo. It has helped with so many symptoms. I am not symptom free, but generally feel much better than I did. I also moved out of the mountains.

I Have the POTS and was told last July passing out from blood pressure being to low , As well as my Heart rate , It is a sister to Chiari .

BP and pulse

Hi Kwiatkat, I suffer really high blood pressure, never used to have problems even when having my twins who are almost 34,it only started 5 years ago and it was dangerously high and was put on medication, a few months later I felt unwell one evening and went to Drs,was sent to the hospital, just after I got there my blood pressure dropped so low the paramedics had to take me to a larger hospital 80klms away.I was in ICU for almost a week then my B/P went right back up,this kept happening till I had the decompression surgery its been stable with the meds since then. That was June 2013.I did have a racing pulse and palpitations too but only when my blood pressure dropped.
I've had no side effects from the meds to keep it stable..,....Good luck ,hope it gets under control soon. Vicki.

Vicki, what meds do you take that seem to keep it stable? I was just given a water pill and got incredibly sick from that. I used to take Inderal for migraines which is also a BP drug. I am wondering if htat was regulating the pulse and BP without me realizing it. I used to have problems with my BP and pulse being too low now all of a sudden too high but there are some large spikes so it does still drop low but then jumps really high. THanks for your insight.

Thanks everyone for the comments and thoughts. I used to have more trouble with my blood pressure and pulse dropping low. Now it seems to be too high and/or jumping around a lot. It is good to hear from you all. I tried to take a water pill yesterday, which made me very sick. For now I am going to wait and see but hopefully it regulates out. Thanks

Hi Kwiatkat,I'm on Candesartan Cilexetil Tablets 32mg,I also have fluid tablets but only take them occasionally as I usually end up with cramps in my calves and feet or spasms in my lower back area..
Do hope they can sort it out for you.

kwiatkat- Absolutely, I have. My pulse freaks them out when we've been in

the hospital. Rate would drop so low they'd be afraid to let me up and a few

mins later could spike from 40s up to 160 with me doing nothing at all except

laying in bed. It's been that way for nearly 8-9 years now. Blood pressure I've never

had a problem with high rather it normally runs super low and of course with pain

it will shoot up. But that's where the Dr's don't get it. When pain levels are extreme

is when my blood pressure will read what is normal for most folks.

Hope that helps you feel at ease a bit at least. CM can be a challenge but we

most certainly can live with it. Although I'd rather live without it.

High pulse and completely uncontrollable BP. It can get up to 210/ 160. can go up and down within 10 mins. I had a stress test and the doc said it looked like a shocked myocardial. He couldn't imagine how I stayed on my feet.
