Back pain (AFTER SURGERY)

HELP. I had decompression surgery about 6 months ago. Since then my neck, back, and shoulder pain has gotten 10 times worse. It burns, it’s numb, sometimes it suddenly sharp. I also have fibromyalgia but my physical therapist and rheumatologist refuse to treat the pain because of the surgery. I tried to get an appointment with my Neurosurgeon (I never saw a Neurologist) but they are booked for an entire 6 months. It’s so bad it’s effecting everything. I can’t sleep, as I’m typing this it’s 3 am and I’m wondering if I should wake my mother up to take me to the ER. I’ve never been in pain this bad before. It’s hard to stand, laying down isn’t any better. My neck feels like it’s on fire. I can’t stop crying. What do I do?

I would see your Neurosurgeon. They didn’t want a 6 month follow up? Mine called me to schedule my 6 month follow up. I am just over 6 months out from surgery. Also, see about getting a referral to a nerve specialist. Maybe you have impinged nerves? Did you have a syrinx? Were your nerves tethered when you went in for surgery? That doesn’t make sense to me why your PT won’t help? Did you not have PT for the surgery to help strengthen your neck and core after surgery? I had 2 mos of PT after surgery to help aid recovery.

Morning,
I am so sorry for your pain you are going through :frowning: . Have you tried laying flat on your bed with an ice pack behind your neck, with no pillow? It has helped me with my recovery, I will be 6 months post-op at the end of this month. My surgeon had me lay flat with no pillow right after surgery and during recovery, it has helped so much. He says it aligns your body with your spine. Also, getting a tempurpedic cooling memory foam topper for the bed helps a lot! Just an idea, you could request for muscle spasm medication from your family doctor to help loosen your neck to reduce pain. Hope you feel better and I’ll be praying for you!
