I am 3 weeks post op and omg. Where the skull and neck meet there is alot of popping going on for past 2 days and no matter what i take it hurts so bad and i have a high threshold for pain. I called the NS yesterday and they seem unconcerned about it and said we will take a look at your next apt which is Sept 20th. 3 weeks post op and only taking IB for pain, barely sleeping. My leg is no better but they seem unconcerned. I am fed up really. Any ideas besides a new NL?
Only good thing is the decompression I havent had a migraine since......
Christy,
I think you should call back. If you are in that much pain they should give you something for it. Do you have muscle relaxants? I would insist that they help you. Three weeks you should still have meds as options when you need them The problem is too once the pain starts it's harder to get is to calm down. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and the worst thing they can say is No. I would ask to talk to the doctor if they turn you down. The easiest thing for them to tell you to do is wait but that doesn't work for you. You are the one in pain and not sleeping.
Wendy
no on muscle relaxants for the past week only IB. I tried to call and they said after 2 weeks the pain should be pretty much gone LOL
Christy,
That's not right at all. No way! If you are in pain they can't tell you you are not. I would raise holy hell. There is no reason why if muscle relaxants help you why they shouldn't be able to give them to you. They should be giving you pain meds too but at the very least they could give you something. I would write down what you want to say and exactly what you are going through so you don't forget. Tell them you're in so much pain you can hardly sleep. I am so sorry you're going through this. It's not right at all.

My NS told me almost the same thing with the popping in the neck. I am recently post op (july q6th was decompression). My PCP offered some answers that make sense though It could be fluid or air stuck in the muscles is what he told me. Keep on the doc who performed the surgery if you are not satisfied.
Another option which some people told me that can cause that is Ethler Danlos syndrome (SP). It can run with Chiari like so many other things. IT is a connective tissue disorder. if you have a good relationship with your PCP talk to them about it they might have soe answers for you.
I also agree with every bit of information that Wendy said.
Wishing you a sppedy , healthy and safe recovery. I am with you in this recovery process.
Mike
I agree with the others. Call and try to be seen.
That just iritates me that the Drs listen to our husbands so much better than they do to us.

if it is really bothering you I would call and demand to be seen .. I usually have my husband call ....and I get in that day.... you cant wait till sept 20...
I tried. I am on a waiting list but unless there are cancellations I will have to wait til apt.
You are the PT, isn't it funny how the surgeon can tell you what's going on after they have cut you open and worked on you! they can also tell you your pain should only last so long! Here's my question for them, how long did it take them (The Doctors) to recover after their surgery??? I am fortunate to have a wonderful surgeon who listens to everything I say and has never doubted what I was telling her. So here is my advice, get the appointment, tell them how you are feeling and that you need their help, if your in pain...ask for pain meds, if you're stiff...ask for muscle relaxers!! My point is, no one...NO ONE except God himself knows you better than you. Do not allow them to tell you how you should be feeling, they are not you!! I will be praying for you! I had a very rough surgery on this past 7 June, I'm still on meds, pain and relaxers, I can't even make it through a Physical Therapy session without vomitting from the pain, and my edical team is totally behind me! God has you, he will back you up, tell those doctors exactly what you need and do not take no for an answer! Remember...Never Quit!! God bless!!
