About these memory issues

I didn't think that I had been experiencing any memory problems and then something really strange happened today.

I had a discussion at work about something pretty important. I then passed that information on to my boss any my customer a couple hours later.

Shortly after that, the co-worker, my boss and I were talking about the issue and my co-worker has a totally different recollection of the conversation. I've known this guy for six years...he's not a liar and is not trying to throw me under the bus.

I truly do not understand what happened. Is this the kind of situation some of you have run into?

Chinabloo,

Yes, memory lapses are definitely something I deal with. I asked a teenager that "hangs" at our house the same question twice but have no memory of the first conversation. I also am taking heavy pain killers at time with Ativan which I know causes memory loss. Yours is different in the fact that you do remember the conversation? I've never been good at repeating things so I don't gossip because when I did I would tell the person that told me! Not really encouraging to them. But I think yours is more how the conversation went more than what was said? I'm not exactly sure what happened so I'm kind of fishing here to see if I can answer your question better? Clearly I don't need to know verbatim what the conversation was about, it's none of my business but more clarity on what you think happened. Remember you're asking people here that are in the same boat. If you have the time and are comfortable let me know, I'm just not sure how to answer this.

It is actually worse on some medications. Are you on any Headache or CNS Medications?

Thanks Tracy, I hope someday to know as much as you! :). I get on here for me but can’t help it I’m a fixer! I trust that you ate feeling better since I know you wouldn’t be ignoring my great advice?! Chinabloo, let us know how you’re doing!

Yep! Its starting to happen a lot more frequently. Just yesterday a coworker and I were discussing something that we wanted to take to the boss. We get to the meeting with the boss and she let me take the lead. After a few minutes I couldn't remember what we were talking about...while I was talking...I looked at my coworker (who knows what I'm dealing with) and she had to prompt me so I could remember! And yes.. I will have conversations and totally not remember them. Its like being drunk all the time, but without the booze! Ugh...so frustrating, but such is life with Chiari!

I think the frustration here isn’t just forgetting things, which we all know way to well, but the outcome of the conversation. Chinabloo remembered a different “version” for lack of a better word, then her coworker/boss. That’s what is throwing me, I have forgotten whole conversation and details of a conversation, but I’ve never had it where someone has a total different recollection of the conversation than I did? So if I’m understanding this right my scenario of the conversation and this is just an example from the joys of working with the public! So basically I talk to my boss, run something by him get the ok tell the customer that we can do what he wants and when I am talking to my boss again all of a sudden they change their story. This actually happened to me so I’m not saying this is what happened but I’m guessing something like this? I really need to learn how to explain things shorter and faster! Hope you all have a good Friday and wonderful weekend! good one! I am going to bed.

I'm not on any meds....just generic Motrin when I feel the "big" headaches coming on and I just deal with the other stuff.

I work for a manufacturing company as an account manager (Program Manager in my industry). Tryint to get a hot product out to a customer. I heard my production manager tell me that it looked really good for getting all the units out the next day. I took that to my boss and we told the customer.

Follow up conversation with the production manager revealed that is not what he said. In fact it was quite different. Again, this is someone I trust and he is not setting me up or anything. This is me.

I'm new here - posted my story a couple days ago and asked about having surgery or just dealing with the symptoms. This incident has me scared. Going to call my PCP who is awesome and see if she can get me a referral to a NS. Unfortunately I probably have to go across the state to SEattle for it as there are no specialists in Spokane.

Thanks for everyone's replies.

Happens all the time. More frustrating at home then work.

Chinabloo,

I would check with Steven as he is very happy with his Neurosurgeon over in Spokane. Unless your herniation is around 12 mm don't bother crossing the Cascades they will just send you packing. I just had to write an e-mail to Dr. Ellenbogen just to be seen again. Basically begging him to help me so I don't have to go somewhere else. Right now, I have to find someone to diagnose me which will get my husband's support (maybe) and then most likely I will be going to Dr. Heffez in Wisconsin. About your conversation with the co-worker, I just don't know. That is a big misunderstanding. It could be possible that he said something and you misunderstood it and like you said he's not trying to get you in trouble but he also may be trying to protect himself? I've been told things by my boss and then when called in by the bigger boss the "conveniently don't remember saying that" it's not that they are out to get you it's more "survival of the fittest". It's just one of the joys of working with other people. Let me know if you end up over here, I can meet up, support, whatever.

I live in Central Oregon and I was told by my neurologist here not to go to any surgeon in the state of Oregon. I went to Sacramento CA and had surgery with Dr. Rudolph Schrot at UC Davis Sacramento. His appointment are done out of the spine center. He has studied with the best. He is extremely good and I have had great results.

As far as the memory goes.. before and after surgery I have had memory issues. Not so much like you said; but my largest memory issues are certain words that you use every day. i have trouble finding words. Sometimes when my head is real foggy I get a bit of a stutter. There are certain memories that I don't have. Usually for some reason work related things stick with me but I am just wondering if you may have had a mild seizure or space out that made you simply skip a portion of the conversation. Good luck and I hope you find a good NS to help you further.
