Before my CM ruined everything I was a carpenter. But now my neurosurgeon, my GP, and my physiotherapist tell me I need to find an office job. I honestly don't know what I want or am qualified to do. I got into construction because I HATED school. I got A's and B's, I just didn't like being there. I've almost made peace with the fact that I will probably have to go back to school, I just don't know that I'm going to retrain for.
What do some of you do for work now? I'm just fishing for ideas so that I have something to research. I honestly don't know where to start looking.
We are actually working on an Employment Program for Ben's Friends Members. I have been working on this for months. We will be announcing this soon. They have incredible telecommuting and outside employment opportunities. We are working with the SSA to ensure it will not affect anyone's SSDI or SSSI benefits. We had planned on starting this 1/1/13 but are diligent in making sure we have everything in place and an educational program so every Member that is interested will have all their questions answered. The Jobs are with major corp's, great pay and benefits. We just need a little while because we are offering this nationally and that is a huge undertaking. We always put each Member's interests first and foremost. I do many things other than Moderate the CM forum. I promise I will update everyone as soon as I can. These jobs are even with State and the Fed Govt. Just please know I am working hard every day to bring this to fruition. It is a very important to us all for many reasons. I have seen so many Members have financial hardships and lives changed. We go through so much with Chiari, I just want to help everyone. This is a incredible opportunity most of us never even considered.
Wow Tracy, you are an incredible asset to this site and to tge chiari community in general. I know that you get satisfaction from knowing you’re helping people but I hope you’re getting some kind of compensation for your hard work, you deserve it. I dont think your new program will help me in Canada though. But I will definitely check it out once it’s in place to get an idea of what to strive for. Again, thank you for your hard work and care for your fellow man.
Actually I do have some contacts in Canada. I will send a message to them right now.
No one that works with Ben's Friends is financially compensated. Even Ben himself and his four partners. This is a labor of love for me and everyone else. That's what makes it so special. We are not a huge Non Profit. We have fundraisers and a very tight budget. I don't think most Members realize that, but it is very true.
I will let you know when my Canadian friends get back with me.
I promise I get so much more from helping others than I could ever get back. My own personal Chiari Journey has shown me my path. My needs are met & I have excellent medical care and friends and family. I am where I am supposed to be doing what I am supposed to be doing. I still have many bad days and when I do I take a break. It honestly helps me to help others. It gives me my life purpose back and that is very important.
