Surgery #2

hi all-

I have just received news that I will have to have another surgery- I went to Dr Heffez at the Chiari Institute in Wi- turns out that when the first surgery was done there was too much skull removed and now my brain has fallen down- prolapse falling- so moving my neck especially looking up- puts direct pressure on the brain from the tissues/nerves/muscles- the only correction is surgery to rebuild the skull- also he says while he is in there he will complete part of the Chiari surgery that wasn't done-

I wonder if anyone has had this issue as well and how the surgery went and how recovery is- I should have gone to the specialist first but hind sight is twenty twenty right? My first surgery was done at the Mayo Clinic, which was Nov 2, 2012- by June of the following year 95% of my symptoms have returned with a vengeance.. I'm scared about the results but know that I'm too young to continue as I have and that I need some relief- I never thought I would have to go through another surgery like this.

My support system is excellent with my family and friends- however, they can't fully understand the stress and pain and confusion that goes along with Chiari- I for sure need some advise and support from the wonderful people here-

I thank you all!

Lil, you have our support. Since this is not your first rodeo I imagine the surgery recovery would be much the same??? I had my decompression done with Heffez, and the immediate post surgery was virtually pain free for me. I hope it goes that way for you too. I pray a little prayer that this fixes everything for you.
Better days ahead

Jenn

Lil, I'm glad you got to a Chiari specialist! Facing a second surgery is always tough to face, but if it will make your quality of life better, it'll be worth it. You know the drill and what you'll face, but you can look forward to an improvement in everyday life. With the revision, you should see improvement soon after. You're in good hands, so keep the faith!

jenn-

Heffez has been very clear and made sure to show me on MRIs exactly what he was talking about- I am glad to hear from someone that has actually dealt with and had surgery done by Heffez. You have lifted some weight off and to hear pain free is great thing! I know everyone recovers differently etc but you've given me even more hope (hasn't been a lot of that for me lately) to grasp onto. THANK YOU tons! and the support from all here is amazing- like no other

wishing all good thoughts and strength
