St. louis or Belleville, Illinois area

Needing a neurosurgeon around the st.louis or belleville, Illinois area that specializes in chiari or at least knows how to treat it. Help!!!

If you are able to travel, pick the best doc you can. Surgeons will tell you they are qualified to treat Chiari, but really only do two or three decompressions a year.

I am in St. Louis and have yet to find one in the area. But if by chance you do, could you please send me the name? I'm sorry I couldn't help you.......

I have been to two Neurosurgeons in STL but unfortunately can't offer you a positive review. So like SteelersNation, if you find a good one, please share. Good luck.

I also saw two here and both of them were less than helpful. The first one told me that a 6mm herniation was not a true CHiari and that none of my MANY symptoms could possibly be related. Then he just brushed me off to a Neurologist that told me my only problem was migraines and sent me home with migraine medicine that didn't help. Funny thing is, I get bad headaches but they aren't migraines. She refused to address any of my other symptoms. I went back to the NS that had sent me to her and then he told me that he would do the decompression surgery if I really wanted it but that he didn't think it would really help me. So.....do I really want to be treated by a doc like that? No, not really. The second NS that I went to had actually practiced under Dr. Oro when he was still in Columbia, MO. He also told me that a 6mm wasn't causing my many Chiari symptoms because the herniation was too small. Really? Dr Oro is one of the top Chiari specialists and he, like the rest of the Chiari specialists, state that the size doesn't matter. Ugh...........it is very frustrating. It may be necessary to travel out of state to find an actual Chiari specialist.
