Size of herniation changed from 12mm to 18mm in 5 months

Hello everyone! So I’m just shocked that I got my preop brain MRI results in the mail and it shows that my herniation has gone from 12mm to 18mm in 5 months. Is that possible? I’m already scheduled for surgery June 2nd. It’s just crazy to me that my herniation can increase by 6mm in 5 months has that happened to any of you? Also what causes the herniation to increase in size so quickly? Thanks for reading this! I’m also starting to get my nerves a little raddled since surgery is in 6 days wow time seems to be going by kind of fast now. Already take care!

I have no words of wisdom for you. I'm new to all of this myself. I will wish you the very best outcome with your upcoming surgery.

Hello Beeba! I asked my NS about eds, tethered cord and csi. I was concerned about that after all the things I had read and questions I asked here. My NS said he doesn’t suspect eds and we did a lumbar spine mri and I didn’t have tethered cord. I do know that I do have csf blockage and some distortion of the brain stem. I’m not hyper mobile. I used to be able to put both of my legs behind my head when I was younger but not so much anymore lol! My joints don’t come out of socket or I can’t bend my fingers back far and my skin isn’t really stretchy. I did some of my own self checks as well while looking up the symptoms of eds. Last year I went to Magic mountain in January and went on roller coasters for my sons Bday. Then in august of last year we went to an amusement park and I got on more roller coasters again! I know now that that was not a great idea although I didn’t know that at the time. Possibly all that whipping around could of got things to act up? I am going to contact my NS and let him know I’m concerned about this 6mm increase in herniation. I would want to know if something else was going on for sure to try and limit surgery down to one if I had some type of instability. I’m hoping that from all the tests and examinations I could trust that I don’t have eds or instability or tethered cord. I also agree it doesn’t seem like I have much of a choice at this point and it is a must to have the surgery. It does help ease my mind on wondering if im doing the right thing. Well thanks for getting back to me take care!

Hello Shandier! Thank you for the kind words I really appreciate it!

Hello Emmaline! Well that’s good to know that they can go up and down. I’m going to mention this to my NS and see what he thinks maybe they see that often? Yes surgery is definitely the right decision for me and I feel content with it now. Thanks for the info and I can’t wait for my life to change! I will keep you guys posted take care!
