Wondering if anyone knows if this is normal? Got ill last summer, suddenly could barely walk, neurologically impaired. Found chiari of almost 30 mm and syrinx. surgery dec 22. Went home after a week. Was back a week later with menengitis. Non stop vomiting, never been so ill. Since then, I have been hospitilized 6 times for cfi leaks. Spent 36 days total in hospital. At home, I would just not get well and after a few days would have so much swelling in the back of my head that dh would rush me to er where they would do sp spinal taps, drains and keep me for several days. They finally did a second surgery on march 1st and found a massive staph infection all the way down to dura. I spent another week there and went home with a picc line and a month of iv antibiotics at home. Feel better in some ways, now that they finally are treating the infection that I think has been uncured since the menengitis in january. I’m still constantly dizzy and weak and in bed most of the time. It’s been a month since 2nd surgery. I can do small tasks before I get pain and too dizzy to stand. I do have 7 young children to care for also. Feel like I’m worse off than before. Hoping for some one who has a similar story and good recovery. They say part of my brain is still compressed and another surgery is needed someday. This one would go thru my throat and require spinal fusion due to where the compression is. I can’t imagine surgery thru my throat!
