I know that many people have suffered from occipital neuralgia before and after decompression/duraplasty. Has anyone suffered occipital nerve damage because of the halo pin placement during surgery?
I have had nerve pain since waking up from surgery and it has been 1 year since my decompression. This is pain has not gotten any better with time. I had a steroid block (which was unsuccessful) done in June and was told that my greater occipital nerve is anatomically a bit higher than what is considered normal. The concern was that the halo pin may have actually punctured the nerve because of this finding. My NS said to go back to my neurologist to discuss options, possibly botox injections.
I have an appt. at the end of October with the neurologist and also another one with a pain doctor who works at the concussion center here in Pittsburgh and deals specifically with neuralgia patients.
Has anyone else experienced this and what has or hasn't helped?
Thanks,
Debbie :)
