Neuropsych exam

Who here has done the 'paper' pencil test and have your results been 'normal'? I won't have the actual results for a few days, however short of telling my that Chiari wasn't the issue because "17% of the population walk around with unknown abnormalities" yada yada yada, I don't expect there to be any giant red flags. 4 hours later, I walked out with quite the headache. I KNOW the visual exams hurt my head the most, however I don't know if that will show on the report.

Another question: Does sleep help with the symptoms? I would prefer to spend all my time in bed, sleeping, but work and children and a house to 'attempt' to maintain(thank goodness for family!) make that difficult. I am usually able to stay awake until the kids go to bed, but I am wondering if a nap routine would help?

Thanks.

Yes it started at 9:15 and I left at 1. I had a 30 minute break about halfway through. Nothing too taxing, just a brain workout.

I'm scheduled for this test in May if I keep the appointment. Did yours take hours?

Sure, I tried doing the same kind of research before mine to see if I could prep myself - you can't. I've been trying to excercise my brain with the Brain Trainer app lately though.

Memory recall (they tell you a list of words or a story and you recall them, (list all the fruits, veggies, animals you can think of), All the words that start with (fill in a lietter), Make a path (connect the dots) in order, say the color (not the word of the color, but what it ink printed in), there was a decoding one that reminded me of trying to decipher hyroglyphics (sp??), reaction time test, drawing - spatial relations. And the questions get harder as the go on. It's not a pass/fail test. They take your results and compare them to those of other people your, sex, age, and educational equal.

Can you explain what kind of things were on the test? Was it like a personality test or more IQ? I love this kind of stuff but I swear if I take any type I always end up in the middle of the "Cosmo quizzes" I guess that is good. Do you remember any questions or give examples. Swear not trying to cheat on a neuropsych exam!! Lol. Just find this interesting.

Update: Well I think the test over did it. I had gone to work after the test and although my head hurt, I was powering through it until about 3 hours in I was hit with a wave of nasuea. That was it I called it quits. An hour later the headache worsened drastically and it hasn't subsided. I was driven to work today and wish upon wish I didn't have a deadline. I am in agony. I haven't had head pain like this since I was hospitalized two years ago. My whole head feels like I am in a vice and my brain is pushing out of 'pores' in my skull. Suggestions? Tried my normal aleve - no luck. I think I have a relatively high tolerance for pain but I am running out of steam.

My husband is searching the house for abortive migraine medicine just to try it. But who should I call? The NS who I've seen once? The Neurologist who thinks these are only migraines and dismisses the chiari? Or the PCP who I haven't seen since I went to the neurologist. I feel like there is a brick tied to my brain and neck muscles pulling everything down. Facing a holiday weekend of family and (supposed to be) making memories for my children and I want to curl up and cry instead.

Basically yes. It is a common test for athletes now before the season to have a baseline to compar them to if they get a concussion. They want to see what might be a neurological disorder vs a physical disorder.

And in the end what does the test tell you? Start writing post it's!! Or will it say certain neuro pathways are not what they should be? Do you know how you compared.
