Neurologist

I am 4 months postop from decompression. I have had several issues along the way. My nausea is still being managed by pain management and it is finally improving. I also have nerve pain that has gotten worse in the last few weeks. I have completed months of physical therapy and I’ve been back at work full time for a month.

I had a repeat MRI last week and was told it is nearly perfect. The brain is decompressed and the syrinx has decreased to almost nothing. However, I don’t feel perfect. My neurosurgeon can’t explain my physical symptoms. He wants me to see a neurologist for a second opinion. He also increased the neurontin I’ve been taking. I’m so confused that I can have perfect imaging, yet feel so miserable. I’d appreciate any thoughts or opinions.

Hi..

Sorry to read that you are not feeling well..This is just my opinion from my own experience.....You are only 4 mths post op ...in reality , that is not a lot of time..plus you are back to work FT...For me, it took some time to see/feel the positive results from the surgery..it was like a rollercoaster ride in many ways for me the 1st year post op..In the very begining of my recovery , I had new sx's! Thankfully, my NS warned me about this..that my body/brain needed to adjust to the new flow of CSF...those new Sx's did indeed go away.

Even though your MRi's look great, it just may be that your body is adjusting to the new CSF flow...just a thought...

let us know how you are doing..and be sure to take it easy when you can. Sounds to me like you may be over doing it.
