I have been newly diagnosed. I have had issues since I was younger tho. In 2011 and 2016 I had MRIs and it had chiari malformation on my scans but the doctor never said anything. I have been having issues a lot lately. Heart palpitation have gotten worse (had these on and off for 14 years), numbness in hands, feet, and legs, headaches everyday that wont go away (I have hemiplegic migraines), memory problems, finding the right words, ringing in my ears have gotten bad and a few other things I sure im forgetting. Primary doctor got to doing some digging and we found these old scans and seen this on there. She thought there might be something to it because she has ruled out everything she thought it could be. Sent me to see a neurologist. He has confirmed it. He doesn’t think I need surgery yet. I really liked him. He didn’t make me feel crazy or anything and didn’t give me any medicine because I said I didn’t want any. He wants to wait and watch. Would yall go and see a neurosurgeon and see what they thought so wait till he sent me to one? He said he would when he thought I was getting to that point.
It is never a bad idea to get a second opinion but if you are okay with waiting you can do that also.
I really don’t know what to do. I think i want to see a neurosurgeon. I know the neurologist can’t do anything for me i just don’t know if i need to wait a while or what. This has been so overwhelming. Everything has happened in they last few months. I was also sent to a chiropractor before i was diagnosed. Went for 22 visits. Did not help. Made my neck and shoulders worse. Im afraid it has done more damage. Going for another scan next week. Any advice is welcome.
I also don’t know how to tell my boss and do i need to go ahead and fill out a FMLA?
I suggest that if you have any doubts either talk to the neurosurgeon you went to already and ask more questions or get a second opinion because that never hurts and you never know if they might suggest something else and you pick what is right for you.
i would suggest that if you don’t need pain relief and then you are not in need of surgery at this point in time.
