Question does anyone get this feeling???
My neck hurts In the back kind of a burning feeling but it hurts through to my throat…I’m not sure if I’m explaining this right but I haven’t had surgery yet so it can’t be that does anyone feel this way?
Yes, prior to my surgery, particularly when I was feeling very tired and sick, I’d even get a sore throat. I thought perhaps it was chronic Epstein Barr that my body’s stress due to the Chiari symptoms was causing to flare. I can’t say for sure if it was related to Chiari itself or something else, but I haven’t noticed it since the surgery.

I found that I developed throat pain after my surgery when singing or talking a lot. Also, my husband, a teacher, was having a lot of throat pain at the end of the day from all the talking that he does. Before I figured it out, my husband had had a number of doctor appointments and told he needed anti-inflammatories then steroids, and would have to live with it as a chronic problem. Ridiculous I said.
For the both of us, it turned out to be motor control issues with our neck movements. My husband is not the most compliant and had to go through two bouts of treatment and has now been pain free for some time. Treatment consisted of neck exercises in prone and supine (he should have graduated to sitting exercises but got better and stopped) for about 2 months, 2 times a day. He also spent some time being aware of faulty positioning in his job and other activities and changing his posture and positioning of equipment.
If what you have is the same thing, it is a quick fix. Not everything with Chiari needs to be dramatic, horribly awful, and rare. Assessment with a good physical therapist who practices motor control is where it is at. Ask about the motor control skill before you book and save some money.
I know that you have a lot going on so I hope that you are trudging along on your healing journey. Just another thing with Chiari it seems like.
I got laryngitis after my surgery with a terrible sore throat n also experience coughing n problems talking. My voice gets raspy n I cough when I talk alot. I read where chiari can cause vocal chord paralysis and problems swallowing. I aspirate alot n choke very easily. Anyone else have this problem?
