Hi , I dont write here much but read a lot of the discussions. I have a 2 yr old and 9mos old so I just have a hard time finding time. Anyhow about 3 days ago a large hard lump appeared on my right mastoid process, it feels like a golf ball there. And it hurts-BAD. And now the pain radiates in about a 4in circle around. I can't even wash my hair or brush it. Other than knowing I have chiari I don't know much else about myself, they found the chiari while I was nursing my 1st baby, then was pregnant and am still nursing so I can't do much testing. Has anyone experienced anything like this?
Hi Linn, I wouldn’t assume it has anything to do with the Chiari. I would see a doctor right away though. Let us know what happens.

I'd see a doctor because I don't really think that's Chiari related. Could it be a swollen lymph node? Do you have any signs of an infection anywhere?
I dont think I have an infection anywhere? It was just there 1 evening out of nowhere now the area of pain is getting larger. I cant look up or it hurts or look straight down. I can't get in to see the neuro till Thurs.I just feel foggy.
Since it's over your mastoid bone I would be surprised if it's CM related. Have you seen a PCP or gone to the ER. It could be serious. Is it an enclosed knot or open & do you have a fever? Please get it checked.
I agree… Don’t wait for your NS. I would go to a walk in clinic ASAP if u can’t get in to see your doc.
I do get get swelling and little hard bumps on the back right side of my head,it hurts to brush my hair and even wakes me up at night if I sleep on it! I haven’t gotten any answers yet either. Except maybe lymph nodes.
Please share with me if you learn anything else about this!

I currently don't have a primary Dr, Ive tried all the ones in my area and they all suck.Im going to have to start looking in the bigger towns its just hard w/ kids 2 & under to drive 2 hrs away. I do not have a fever but oddly I don't get fevers.It hurts moretonight, like I don't know how I will sleep. I think I will have to go into a clinic or ER becuase I can' feel like this till Thursday.
I did go to the ER, I was feeling dizzy, faint & couldn't look up or down because of the bump. The 'Dr' if you can call him that was so rude. So RUDE! anyhow he said its probably a subaceous cyst. When I asked if that was what was making me feel so off. His answer was "Who knows" and told me to take an anti-biotic. So basically no help.

If you aren't feeling better in a couple of days please see someone else. I am so sorry you got a jerk for a Dr, but glad you are on an antibiotic.

I am also curious about the way the back right side of my head hurts and has been swelling?
Along with the hard bumps that come and go?
I’ve been trying to figure out what triggers it. I Have noticed more Neuro issues also,speaking ,memory,vision and hands going numb? It’s getting worse every week?

I saw my NS Thursday.The guy is a tool. Im sorry but its true. He was mad I came back even though Im still breastfeeding ( I had back to back kids and after my 1st he told me not to come back till I was done breastfeeding). And for the 2nd time he said "Finish breastfeeding and Ill give you some medicine for your migraines and they will help you lose that weight too." Im maybe 15lbs over weight but I had 2 kids back to back so Im sorry. But who the heck says that? Anyhow he said the bump wasnt a cyst. He said don't take the antibiotics, he htinks it s a bone spur. Well now ther is a 2nd bump 2 in lower-right below the hairline. And it hurts so bad in between the 2 bumps. I feel alone. I have no Dr to go to. e also said my dizzyness, brain fog, tight sore neck, migraines (on month 3 of a headache) slurring, occasional coughing issues, he says none of these are Chiari related. Basically i don't think he has any clue. There are no other Drs in a 1hr radiu. And I don't know where to find one anyhow. Ive tried the GPs here -between 2 GP I can't even get my vitamin D levels checked. They can't get it right. I feel so stuck.
