Low lying cerebral tonsils may represent ectopia versus Chiari I malformation

so what does this mean?

Hey April,

I'm new and undiagnosed as of yet, so I can be of little help to you. I read your other post and that vertigo sounds like it was horrendous. From what I read, I though cerebellar ectopia was Chiari, but I could be off. Perhaps you don't meet the 5mm requirement for Chiari and the radiologist has labelled it as ectopia instead. But it's not about the mm of herniation, but how blocked the CSF flow is, meaning it's possible to be symptomatic at less then a 5mm herniation.

That's my two cents, but I would take it with a grain of salt - I'm still learning about this crazy world of brain issues!

Best of luck.

Hi April....

Yes, Lissa ...that is my understanding to....you said it perfectly.

A CINE MRI should be done to check the CSF flow. Have you had one of those done??

I see the neurologist on Thursday and will request to have one done. My fear is that the doc won't know much about it and I am going to struggle to have it ordered.
