Lesion vs syrinx

Hello. My next Mri is on the 30th. I have said before that my Nuerologist does not think my chiari is causing my symptoms but suspects MS. I have no lesions on my brain but he expects to find them on my spine. I have looked at images online of ms lesions and syrinx from chiari and I can not tell a difference. How do the doctors?

I still plan on sending my stuff to a chiari specialist, but to waste some time, I thought I would ask here.

If the neurologist doesn’t find lesions on my spine he wants to do a lumbar puncture to further test for ms. I’m going to stall that until I get in touch with a chiari specialist.

From what I have read it seems MS lesions just light up on the MRI (it seems important that the MRI machine strength is at least 1.5T and even that strength will blur smaller lesions) as where a syrinx contains fluid.

A radiologist will know the difference for sure. I’m glad you are holding off on the lumbar puncture too… Unless your doc thinks you have an infection in your CSF (doubt it) I would talk to a Chiari specialist first. You can always say to the LP later, right?

Let us know Rebecca,
