My son is experiencing loss of peripheral vision, headaches and nausea. CT scan shows 5mm chiari. Just went in for MRI today. What do I ask? What now?
Write down all your questions in a notebook. Do you have an appt with a neurosurgeon? If so, you will need to find out if they have experience with chiari and the decompression surgery. Ask them what they recommend based on his age and symptoms. Now that you know the cause of the problem, you will need to explore your treatment options. Surgery is just one of those options.
Hi...Sorry to read about your sons diagnosis...hard on you as well, I am sure. Carla gave great advice on the notebook...as well as neurosurgeon consult. Personally , neurologists are not that well versed on Chiari and its many symptoms...that is just my experience..I would head straight to a NS and bypass the neurologist.
keep us posted, ok???
