Is Your House In Order?

In general, I am a really organized person when it comes to my life. I am a planner and always want to make sure that I have things "in order." Since I have confirmed my date for brain surgery, I have been really busy making sure my sick time from work has been totaled, short term disability, long term disability, life insurance....and then I have my living will and my last will and testament...not that I am planning on dying anytime soon.

It can be uncomfortable to think about your own mortality, however, I think we have a responsibility to our family to make sure our business is handled.

What say you?

Life is short...do what you want!

Hi Mary Martha:

I wish I could say that I am as organized as you....I need to become more proactive with things!!!!

How ya feeling?????

Blessings,

Lori

Hey there Lori! I am great! How are things with you? There is a change in the atmosphere, so I am having some head pain...but other than that, I cannot complain.

It is really easy to become proactive....don't look at ALL of the things that have to get done. Make a list...and try to accomplish one thing at a time. That is how I do it...I cannot stress myself out! It can be overwhelming...but you'll get it done!

HEY....

Thanks for the good advice.....see, I tend to get overwhelmed...thus..never know where to even begin, these days!!!!

Thanks so much for your words of encouragement!!!!

Mary Martha,

You are so right. We all need to think about those things. I didn't put anything in writing, but I did verbally tell my husband what I wanted in case I didn't make it thru surgery. I really should have a will and plans made, you know? I don't want my kids to have to do it or have to make any difficult decisions. Thanks for reminding us all! Have a great weekend:)

Love,

Carla

you're right; life is short......so, we do need to enjoy it. I'm busy doing that....that's my excuse for not being so super organized now. I was organized when I was working because I had to be I guess. My husband is organized enough for both of us, so I'm lucky. He keeps track of everything - he can tell you everything that has been done on the house, the car, my medical records, everything, he writes it all down. And.....I get tired just writing about it. Since I retired I just can't be bothered to take the time to write down all that stuff - so, I'm glad he does it. Oh, I do need to redo my will; guess I should have redone it before my surgery - but I just took it for granted would make it through O.K. Whew - I'm glad that worked out and my family didn't need the will. It's been so long since I redid it that my children (who now have children of their own) would go to my husband's brother. My daughter said recently that she didn't think her Uncle would want to take her. her husband and her children, to live with him so I know I do need to take care of that LOL!!!

Hugs

HI GANG!!!

I feel a sense of accomplishment today!!! I haven't left the house...been cleaning, organizing things and last night I actually burnt all my old bills and such which i no longer need...you should have seen all I had to burn in our fire pit...can you tell I don't own a shredder!!!!

So...life is short...now I will treat myself to ice cream!!!!!

Blessings,

Lori

Gosh Lori, I’m impressed. I’ve been busy all day too, but not cleaning or organizing…attending functions for my husband’s class reunion…I’ve been doing a lot of sitting and eating - no ice cream though…darn. I think I would have enjoyed that more!!! We spouses are so out of it at class reunions…

Oh, and I forgot to tell you - the fire pit is faster than the shredder!

Yeah..Abb..can you believe it!!!! I am fine.....I am not weight-bear on the rt foot..OK..can you tell these ER folks are clueless regarding my balance issues..which I have told them each and ever time I am there because of all these falls..yet they give me crutches...I should have spoken up, I know...but just too weary...

Hey , as far as this discussion "Is your house in order"....did I tell you guys (b4 i feel..LOL)....I found all these adorable pictures of the girls and put some in frames and such and cleaned out my china closet...if i do say so myself..looks pretty darn good!!!!!!

I guess I will only tackle stuff that requires me to be on the couch or here at the table on on butt!!!!...Michael has to pick mom up and take her here b/c I cannot drive over their to take care of her..'the injured leading the injured" between me and mom....we laugh about it between my silent tears!!

Love ya's,

Lori

Lori, they gave me crutches when I got a Jones fracture in my foot. They don't put a cast on it; just put you in a moon boot for about five months and tell you not to put any weight on the foot at all. I never got the hang of the crutches; just couldn't balance on them and I really didn't have enough strength in my arms and hands. So I used a walker and kind of hopped around on one foot. I don't know how people use the crutches.....I just couldn't do it either. Hugs to you.

Shirley

Shirley!! How are ya???

I go back today to see the Physiatrist (rehab doc) ..I saw him on Sat. at my moms appt....he looked at my foot again and then pulled up the Xray I had done at the ER ...The Xray was of the ankle only..so he wants me to have an Xray of the entire foot. So, we'll see...I also get the Tens Unit for my hand and arm today...

Thank Care,

Lori

Lori, I'm o.k. If I check and I'm not o.k., I always tell myself that I am; sometimes it's hard to fool myself though LOL. I'm sure you know what I mean.

This is the second time I have typed this.....lost it the first time by hitting a wrong key.....darn. I hope you find an answer for your foot problem.....it's hard enough to get around without the feet hurting. I have a TENS unit and I like having it. My insurance company bought it and it is a whole lot easier than using it at the therapist's office. When I broke my foot, my friend loaned me some kind of stimulator machine to use on the foot which is supposed to help it heal. I don't remember what it was called, but I think it is supposed to increase the blood flow to the foot.

Went to my neurosurgeon today with all my films of my back. If I get too many more CT scans, MRIs, XRays, etc, I AM going to need a truck to haul them all. I've accumulated quite a collection. He said I need a major back surgery where he would insert rods and screws and I said "Yikes". He said though that it would be too risky to do all that because it would probably make me unstable and he is proposing doing a smaller procedure which would only take about two hours and would relieve some of the presssure on the nerves. I have to think about it; I would really like to get rid of some of the pain I have in my back and legs, but not too anxious to do another surgery. I'm getting a little tired of them actually after having four in about three years. And, even though he never complains, my husband is probably getting tired of taking care of me. I trust the doctor though so I will probably let him do it; he fixed the basilar invagination after everyone else said it was too risky. Hopefully the lesser procedure will take care of it and I won't end up having to do the other one anyway.

Someone has to keep the doctors in business so they can pay their rent......I guess it's us!!!!

I hope you had a great day....beautiful day here. We had our dinner out on the deck; it was really nice, but started getting a little cool before we were done.

Hugs

Shirley

Lori, sitting on my butt is what I do best; the couch and I have a very close relationship. My husband calls it my "nest" Works for me......
