Here is my story

For a little over a year I was doctoring pretty heavily for what I was being told was all sinus/allergy related...in fact 8 different doctors told me I needed sinus surgery because my nasal structure is too narrow...my fear of surgery kept me from doing it but I also just didn't feel that was the answer. I was developing more and more symptoms that just did not seem to go along with what I was being told....Long Story short...my pcp finally agrreed to send me to the neurologist and she ordered the the mri/mra, that showed Chiari. I never even heard of it before. My tonsils are only down 2 cm, but I also have a benign tumor in the same area. I did see my first NS last week and he said definately real Chiari and would like to see me get the surgery. I am going for a second opinion of July 5...I am petrified of the surgery/recovery as I am sure most of you are no strangers to. I am praying that I can make the right choice and get some relief. My symptoms are moving into my arms and legs...walking outside has become a real task...my headaches occur when I do any kind of straining, bending, lifting etc. and most days I feel like I just got off a merry go round...I dont even know if I would know what "normal" would feel like anymore but would certainly love to find out....I appreciate all of the information I am getting on here and I am hoping it will give me the strength I need....any feedback about pre or post surgery or just tryiong to manage symptoms at home would be helpful...thanks in advance.

I am post surgery. As far the the symptoms go, the surgery help the headaches. All my other symptoms were worse after surgery or the same. I was told by the neurosurgeon that I should have had surgery when I was diagnosed but the doctor said it was not necessary. As far as my lifestyle I have to pick and chose what I do. I have to pace myself during the day and I had to learn and listen to my body. If you didn't know me you would think nothing is wrong, but those who are close to me know when things have gotten out of hand. That is the best advice I can give you, on top of having a relation with Christ. I pray this helps you. God Bless!
