Help

Help, iv had the normal pressure headache for 2 days now,but im in agony today and my left eye hurts so much I actually think my left eye is going to pop out it’s that sore, ( i had a swollen optic disk at last eye review) I’m at the point of lifting a hammer and a nail and u can guess the rest lol…any ideas how to stop my eye hurting? Painkillers as always arnt helping it

All advice welcome

I had that after my surgery and I had a good surgeon who let us page him and he actually had me take 600 ibuprofen and it helped reduce the swelling and help with the pressure.

Iv never had surgery  my pupil is small compared to my right eye also

I am afraid that I am so new to all of this, I cannot offer advice. I will hold you in my prayers. I wish you swift relief.

Thank u

Try wearing dark sunglasses...it helped, especially indoors...I used to threaten to scoop out my left eye...didn't realise it was because of light sensitivity...lots of us have this issue. I wound up getting bi-focal sunglasses (lol, got confused when ordering) instead of bi-focal glasses. What a relief...even wore them inside. Good luck! (AFTER SURGERY, I DON'T NEED THEM MUCH.)

You can also use a hot compress. Get a washcloth wet put in microwave for 30 seconds at a time and it may help.

I use prism glasses. Sunglasses outside. Keep lights off as much as possible. I noticed the more I look down to read, garden, cook, etc. anything that doesn’t have my neck in a neutral position sets it off. Good luck I’ll be thinking of you.

I have problems with my left eye too that 1st time came around after extreme pressure headaches and now linger even with moderate headaches. Please, see ophthalmologist to rule out iritis/uvetis because this condition was linked to Chiari by some researchers and if left untreated it can lead to vision loss. Treatment is simple (prescription steroid drops) and diagnosis is mainly based on measuring pressure in your eye. If it is off, it is iritis. And your eye does not have to look red. If your pain come and than completely goes away than it is what it is (pressure pain) but if it gets worse and pupil start changing shape make sure ophthalmologists rules out everything that can be treated (like iritis) and can be highly damaging if left untreated.

May be one day left eye pain will be officially on Chiari symptoms list (many of us seem to have it) and they will figure out what triggers what...so far I am just sharing with you my a year and half experience into this eye thing. I was confused, in hell of pain (when optometrist and even one ophthalmologist looking in my eye kept saying there is nothing there), covering one eye when driving because 80% of my vision was gone...that was my life for weeks. Then I was treated by strong steroid drops by ophthalmologist who diagnosed me with iritis. My eye vision came back (with slight cataract). My eye hurts before and during big headaches and I tolerate it. Only when it gets extreme I know to use drops. And I see ophthalmologist every 6 months. When something happens with our eyes, ears etc we can't just blame it on CSF pressure and bear the pain, we got to go to specialist and address the issue... we just have to. That's my approach now.

Feel better soon

Thank you for all the information. I'm new to this site and finding it very helpful.

I grew up with eye pain. Until in my early 30s when diagnosed. Only relief was when I finally got my wonderful VP Shunt! I haven’t needed glasses again, and no longer feel like my eyes are being poked out of my head. I Rarely get headaches.
It’s not a TOTAL FIX etc… Oh but such a pressure relief

I get those a lot. I take Excederin tension headache. And a thermacare shoulder and neck pad. It will stop in a half a hour. I am a nurse and I don't know why Excedrin works when hardcore pain killers don't. I think because there is caffine in the tension headache. Try it .It is the only thing that works for me.

To follow up on my post here is a report I found when my eye issues started linking uvetis (iritis) and chiari.

Ultimately, you should go by how extreme your pain is. I don't think if it was something that could be easily handled with i-ibuprofen you would make your HELP post. i-ibuprofen did not help me a bit when I had iritis. Steroid drops, yes...I think sometimes our eye can handle pressure and respond with pain we all have but sometimes they triggered to the extent to respond with inflammation which is rare but happens. Please, see ophthalmologist, if you have't yet to sort it out. And, certainly, never leave home without dark glasses even on a rainy day, because sun eventually may come out:).

I have had this also. I agree that excedrin migraine worked for me also. I lay on a big ice pack on my neck and lower head area. I also use essential peppermint oil, i put it on my temples and my neck. I put it in my dimple from my decompression also. Have amy pf you had brain slumping?

Hi, so sorry for your pain. A homeopath has directed me to try: HYPERICUM PERFORATUM for nerve pain. So far the constant pains I have are my neck, my right arm and my left hip. I am hoping for surgery soon. I haven’t been able to get the Boiron(sp) brand she recommends yet, and I trust her, she is also a CNMW.

I also wanted to comment on Ada’s Uveitis. I also have been diagnosed with Uveitis and I wonder how many of us have… I have contacted the researcher she included the link for, perhaps he has more insight.

Be well.
