Hey everyone! This is probably sort of random but do you guys get headaches during/after a haircut? Whenever they lower me into the shampoo bowl, even when they put a towel down, I get a terrible headache. I'm 10 months post-op and have only had a few true Chiari headaches since the first six or so weeks of my recovery, but today I got a haircut and now I have a horrible headache, even after I took a prescription strength naproxen sodium (Aleve), and I think I may have to take some Vicodin before bed because I have to get up early for church tomorrow. I suspect the shampoo bowl hurts because it puts a lot of pressure right on the site of the surgery, right at the back of the neck, but this happened before my surgery as well. The shampooing combined with the constant looking down and having to keep your head very still is just not a good combination. Anyways, this is kind of rambly but I just wanted to know if anyone has ever experienced this.
Yes it hurts to put my neck on the sink. I now just wash my hair right before I go and she just sprays to wet my hair enough to cut it. That works much better.
I have experienced the same thing. That sink basin edge hit just the wrong spot in my neck, and if you have any instability in your neck the extended position aggravates symptoms too. I have actually thought about this a great deal and the next time I get my hair colored im going have them just put the color in and then I’ll drive home and wash out myself- sure she styles my hair so much better than I can- but it’s not worth it anymore!

What I do is stand to the side of the sink and bend forward a little. Sometimes a little messy, but way better for your neck.
I wash and dry my hair before going to the stylist. I get dry cuts which I prefer anyway. I never like the way anyone styles it (looks like a mushroom), anyway. As for coloring. I do that at home too, and my husband helps me lean forward slightly over the laundry tub to rinse most of it out. Then I get in the shower and do the rest.
