Hello haven't been on site in a while have been dealing with all the issues. Having decompression surgery on June 26, 20014 at John Hopkins by Dr. Judy Huang. I really like her and trust her. I acquired her after getting a 2nd opinion. My first doctor was ok but didn't send me for other test that I didn't know existed. I have the summer off from work so decided this would be the right time. I'm so tired of the head rushes, and the final straw was when I had a coughing attack at work and I scared my 2nd grade class, when the head rush and pain came. If you've had the surgery please let me know what to expect. I have read about it and also what could happen. I just want to be somewhat normal again so I can help my husband provide for our girls. Disability wont be enough to help take care of my family.
I hope your surgery goes well, as I am sure it will. Johns Hopkins is the best so you are in good hands. When I start to cough I become really scared because I know what it coming next. The rush head aches are a type of pain so bad words are unable to describe it. I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation just last week on June 16, 2014 so this is all very new for me. If you would like, keep in touch and please let me know how your surgery goes. Take care and God bless.
Hello D! I had decompression surgery 3wks ago and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I haven’t had the head rush since I woke up from surgery. Those are very painful and would happen all day long to me so I understand. You will get a lot of relief from the surgery my constant head pressure and headaches got much better. I’m still early in recovery but I would do it all over again for sure. After about 2wks you start to feel a little better each day. Some days are better than others but you will feel the constant improvement. At this point I can make quick meals and take short walks and do light work around the house. I’m pretty tired after and have to lay down and rest but it feels great to be able to do the small things for my family! I have children also so before my surgery I sat them down and told them what the possibilities were going to be for how I would feel when I got home. The most important thing to do is rest when you get home and take your pain meds even at night so pain doesn’t catch up to you. Also muscle relaxers will keep you comfortable too. My pain level stayed at about a 3-4 and never went over a 5. Everyone’s different but you will be happy you did it to get the relief! My prayers go out to you for a speedy recovery let use know how you are do im take care!
D, I will praying for you and sending positive thoughts. Please let us know how you are doing as you feel up to it. Post op just remember to rest- you will be VERY tired for a very long time. Pushing yourself will be counter productive - resting is the best thing for you.
Hello Jayhawk, I know how it feels when you 1st get the news. All of the issues you had in the past now are finally answered some what. I have Chiari but I also found out the same night that I had a Left temporal lobe cavernoma/agioma of the brain, a whole other issue. The Chiari is what's troubling me the most right now and After a year and 6 months I cant take the pain, dizziness, off balance, etc..... So I've decided to have surgery. I know how everything just changes over night for you in the blink of an eye, and all those DOCTORS that told you its all in your head (that you were a crazy person) can finally eat crow. Know that you are not alone, there are more just like us who understand everything you are going through. I will let you know how everything go's and will keep in touch. Thanks for the words of encouragement and prayers. D jayhawk said:

Thanks for the prayers I will let you know how everything go's. Thanks for the advice on the rest. I'm staying with my parents because my doctor said she wanted me on one floor, and we have three in my house. She said I should be able to go home about a week after I leave the hospital. will keep in contact with you. Thanks D jcdemar said:

Hello and thanks for the hugs and prayers. It will be hard to rest but it seems that I will get it no matter what. My Doctors stated that I needed about a good month before going back to work and trying to do what I use to. will keep in touch Abby. D
