Going back to the gym

So i need some much needed advice, It's been six months since i had my surgery and now i feel like i'm able to go back to the gym. I had my surgery in July, and was back at work full time in october and i'm doing really great, i'm not having any kind of pain, except for the occasional headaches that i still get. I still get headaches in the middle of the night that wake me, and i still have them in the middle of the day. But i just take some Ibuprofen and it pretty much goes away. I feel like I'm ready to go back to the gym, but there is a part of me that feels like i may trigger some kind of symptom to come back. I feel pretty confident enough to go back, but at the same time i'm very hesitant. Not sure what to do... has anyone else been able to go back to the gym so quickly after the surgery?? Thanks!! Any advice would be great

My daughter (14) was decompressed less than two weeks ago. On day 10, she had a follow up/wound check with a neurosurgery NP at Seattle Children's (where her amazing NS did the procedure). This NP seemed surprised that Lynn was just getting into walking beyond the bedroom/bathroom/kitchen and encouraged her to start going to the gym and such. She said that she need only refrain from contact sports. Now, she's only 14 and a runner in fantastic physical shape but 10 DAYS AFTER BRAIN SURGERY?! As with everything else over the past 2 yrs of this medical mess, we've taken what each doc says with a grain of salt and just gone ahead and rolled with gut feelings, her emotional/physical reaction, and common sense. If you feel up to it, stretch well before and after, hydrate A LOT before and after, BREATHE and build up strength nice and slow. :)

i definitely don't mind at all. I like hearing how everyone else is dealing with the same things i am. I went back to the gym today, i did the elliptical for 30 minutes, i started off slow and before i even knew it i was going faster and faster but it didnt really cause any kind of pain for me. I think tried to lift some weights and that went ok as well, i didn't do it as hard on the weights as i did before my surgery. I came home and took a shower and what not, and now i have a bit of a headache, but i don't know if its because i did the elliptical, the weights or just the workout itself. Im gonna go again tommorrow and just stick with doing the elliptical and see how i feel.
