Hello all. Feeling rather frustrated and just need to express myself to folks that may understand. The way my chiari was found originally was during an MRI checking for MS. No MS but 8 mm chiari herniation. After my neurologist said the chiari wasn’t a big deal I sought a second opinion. The neurosurgeon immediately recognized surgery would help with my headaches but did not address weakness and tingling in arm or neck pain. MRI of cervical spine shows no syrinx . Had very bad day of pressure in head and pain in neck with arm weakness and tingling. NS suggested going to hospital for CT Scan to check for water on the brain. PA at the hospital said she agrees the neck and arm symptoms are not Chiari related but can’t not begin to figure it out until after surgery(moved up to October 28). Is it possible this is all chiari related? Was hoping surgery would relieve at least most of my symptoms but now it seems like chiari may not be the only issue. In pain, frustrated, and confused. Any thoughts on my symptoms would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all the feedback. It was very helpful. NS called and wanted to evaluate me himself. He acknowledged that chiari has a wide variety of symptoms even though he is not sure my issues are related. He does however feel getting that “fixed” would be a good starting place. So. … surgery has been moved to this coming Tuesday. Really overwhelmed but praying relief is on the way. Thanks so much for the support.
Thanks Rebecca, you too. This board has been such a blessing. You will find more info. And support than you could ever imagine. Keep us posted on your treatment status.
