For the ladies

Well, this goes along with some of the other topics related to women. I am 9weeks decompression, etc post op. this is my first period with symptoms in years! Its my 2nd period since surgery though. I figure i still had so much post op discomfort I didn’t notice last month. I’ve been on birth control for years and never have cramps or mood probs. (I realize now that was such a blessing). This week has been more like 2-3 weeks post op! I feel horrible and feel very “weird”. – like I don’t know what’s wrong. As chiari patients we know that feeling anyway, so no surprise,I’m hoping this is period related, but I don’t remember my neurosurgeon mentioning any new or harsher pms pain. Note that my period is actually no heavier or different, I just FEEL horrible. Anyone else have this happen post op?? Thx:)

Amsand,

I always had terrible periods before and after so I cant offer much in that way but many of the medications Ive been given over the years severely effected me. I dont know if the Chiari makes me more sensative or the pressure my brain is under does or it's just me. Many medications alter my sleep patterns and have really altered my mood especially around my period. Your body is also trying to heal and get to a new normal after surgery. This is probably temporary but if you are unsure or feel worse definitely call your doctor.
