My decompression surgery is scheduled for Tuesday August 21. I will have my staples removed on tuesday August 28 and I am scheduled to take a 2 hour flight back home on Thursday 8/30, 10 days after my surgery. Has anyone experienced flying less than two weeks after surgery and if so how was your flight ?
I flew 10 days after surgery and it was fine. Be sure and get a wheelchair escort to your gate. You get through security faster and don’t have to walk or stand.
Flying was better than a long road trip.
Good Luck! Diana
Thanks for the very helpful information and advice, yes my drive home would be about 14 hours so I think 2 hours of flying would be much better. I just wasn’t sure how the uncomfortable a flight would be due to changes in cabin pressure.
@Diana Smirl, did you take any medication for pain relief or to relax your muscles before your flight.
At that time, I was still on a regiment of muscle relaxers, pain meds, vitamins and anti-nausea med when needed. I took them like clock work after surgury. Muscle relaxer - every 12 hours, Pain meds-every 6 hours, Vitamin C one a day.
I did take an extra pain pill on my way to airport to help.
Hope you surgery is successful!
Diana
