For those who used him. How did you handle him not participating with insurance? Did you get reimbursed through your insurance for going out of network? This would be astronomical cost. Any advice?
I have had one consult with another ns that did not take the insurance. Insurance will usually reimburse at out of network rate. I have written my insurance company to see if they will except at the in network rate since I work for a hospital and they do not have a chiari expert/eds expert. I did check and the hospital Dr Henderson operates at does take insurance. So they majority will be covered at my in network rate. I will let you know when i go to see Dr Henderson soon.
Dr Henderson is wonderful at working with your insurance to make it work out for you. I have Aetna and they have been amazing!!! When I had my initial consult with him I had to pay out of pocket (I think it was around $600) but they submitted to my insurance so that it would count for me in terms of my portion. When it came to booking the surgery, there is a deposit that he wants, however they work with you! And they worked to get my insurance to cover him at in-network since there is no other Dr that can do what he does...with him being an EDS speicalist as well as NS that deals with chiari, CCI etc.... my insurance granted that so it was no issue. The hospital that he practices out of is in-network so it really ended up being far simpler than it seems going into it!!! He truly does what he does b/c he cares and has a passion to help patients like us. I certainly didn't have the $ for the deposit up front and he just took a small down payment and will wait on my insurance. DO NOT let the insurance thing stop you from pursuing him if you are thinking about seeing him. I owe my life to him!!!! He is every bit as amazing as you may have heard. I didn't have the insurance problem. I highly recommend Dr. Henderson though; He not only is a gifted surgeon but is a compassionate wonderful human being who gives God the credit for his ability to fix people. It gave me a lot of peace when he said a prayer for me before my surgery. Hugs. Shirley
