Decompression surgery

Hi everyone, so I should be having my surgery next Wednesday. I’m in the medical field in my home country of Jamaica, and I have another rare illness, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, so I do know about all the medical bits and bobs of what will go on. Where my uncertainty and nervousness comes in is what to expect after. My doc told me I will be in the ICU? And it will be quite painful? I’m doing the surgery in Pennsylvania by the way. I was only diagnosed yesterday, so this is all a rush of big news, but relieving in that I know I’m not nuts and that there’s a reason for my symptoms and that there’s a way to potentially relieve some of them.

Could some of the surgery veterans around here kindly fill me in on what to expect post op? I would really appreciate it! Thanks.

It helped me to view this as a necessity and an improvement before I went in calmed my nerves a lot post op I felt stiff but they loaded me with meds so pain was not a problem I did make the mistake of allowing them to discharge me after 3 days I don’t recommend that. I had a difficult time managing pain at home. My quality of life has vastly improved not perfect but me ch better I would make the same decision if asked to do it again. My best recommendation is to take everything slow once done with the surgery you don’t need to rush to try and get back to your life it will still be there focus on slow but steady improvements
