Decompression and duroplasty may 29th

Im so scared and id like to hear from others how there surgery went and what to be prepared for. I tried a few times to be seen by Dr trumble but his office never got back to me so my surgery is with dr. youssef.I dont know what to expect and I just got a bad sinus infection and chest cold so im not sure if i should postpone surgery due to being sick? I also have a almost 3 year old son that is still very much in the terrible twos faze i have no one to help me other than my husband but he will only be able to take off work for a few days. Id really appreciate any advice!!

also if anyone can explain to me what hypoplastic posterior and platybasia with craniocervical junction abnormality means that would be great! Idk if its medical terms for chiari or different issues going on?

Hi KB,

Definitely call your NS and tell them about your infection. They will not perform surgery with an existing infection in your sinuses.

I just read through your profile and previous discussions. I rarely ask this but have you had a CINE MRI or a Lumbar Puncture ? I ask because of your cervical issues. I also had major C Spine issues and mine was being caused by elevated CSF Pressure. Please ask your NS if it is possible your C Spine bulging or herniated discs are being caused by increased CSF Pressure. That is very important and may help you immensely in the future.

I also had craniocervical junction abnormality from Spina Bifida Occulta.......These are different issues but can make Chiari Malformations and Surgery/Recovery more difficult.

Hypoplastic Posterior- a condition of arrested development in which an organ or part remains below the normal size or in an immature state - In your Atlas issue it refers to an underdeveloped posterior C-1.

Platybasia with Craniocervical Junction: This is an excellent definition. -http://www.merckmanuals.com/professional/neurologic_disorders/crani...

May I ask who your NS is? They should have explained this all to you. It can be very complicated. You really need to discuss what hypoplastic posterior and platybasia with craniocervical junction will mean to your personal surgery, recovery and prognosis. Please do not be afraid just be a good personal medical advocate. You need to have as good an understanding going into surgery of what exactly they are going to do and how your recovery should go. Then if there is a problem you will be able to recognize it and seek a safe course of action.

Please let us know how you are doing & I hope you feel better. Definitely don't have these surgeries while sick.

Dr. Trumble is an incredible NS and person, I believe however he is a Pediatric NS.
