Hi Alexis, have you taken a look through our Chiari Info for Members tab ... there are quite a few coping tips in there. Hopefully some members will also respond with their thoughts. Kindest, Jules

hello I wanted to say hello , and kinda tell you how I deal with this unbearable pain...I am 38 years old and have been diagnosed with Chiari type 1 for 4 years, but most of my adult life has been painful its what initially sent me to my dr and he did all the diagnostic tests and found my chiari herniation on my mri. I was given a muriad of prescriptions from my drs ...I gave up on the nortriptaline and gaba pentin due to the fact I was allergic to it and then it was high doses of prednisone and blood pressure/beta blockers to control my migraines, plus I was downing lots of ibuprofen and taking low doses of prescribed 5mg hydrocodone...my pain is like haha nice try...a few of my drs laughed at me too...oh imflammation is the problem, your becoming dependent on narcotic pain medication...problem is the pain never stopped I didn't give up though I kept on looking for a dr that would take my health insurance and would understand chiari. now I take a medicine that's derived from good ole marijuana its called rick simpson life oil or life oil or rso and I take small doses of oxycodone as well its no fun being in pain its no fun dealing with drs that don't understand or cant treat pain ...find a good dr, if you don't like your current dr call your insurance plan and see what other drs are available, the homeopathic alternatives I use are simple to use honestly I use ice packs that I tie onto my neck and bottom of my skull in scarves, I use heating packs, I rub rubbing alcohol on my painful places and it pulls out the pain from the muscles, I also bath in Epson salts , when I am in pain I journal on my chiari life facebook page so I can keep track of the flare ups and exhasperations so I can later go back and change whatever I did to hurt myself...I hope my response was helpful ...the best things for pain are pain medication, ice and heat...

feel better friend I send you positive painless vibes
