8 months post-op and major pressure headaches, ringing in the ears, clumsy- is it possible to be chiari related after surgery?

HI All,

So I am 8 months out from my surgery. I had decompression, laminectomy and duroplasty at Hopkins by Dr. Weingart. I felt soooo much better about 10weeks after my surgery. In the last month i've been getting the pressure headaches. In the last week the headache has been non stop. I also have ringing in ears (intermittently) and i'm back to being clumsy. Silly falls. Is it possible that this is Chiari related? I thought that surgery fixes all of this??? I'm an accountant (tax season) and cancelled my 6 month MRI that was schedule in Februrary but I rescheduled it today and will have it done next week. I then see Weingart the following week. What do you all think? Am I over reacting? What are the odds? What else have you seen?

Anne,

It is completely ok to be scared - this is not what you expected.

I think you have done the best thing you can for yourself right now - get a new MRI and see your NS. He has such a great reputation and he is the person who should be able to help you the most.

I would bring every scrap of info I could to the appointment - make a chart of your headaches, other symptoms, medication changes, injuries, etc. to help him know all of the pieces of the puzzle.

I hope that you get some relief soon! Let us know how the appointment goes.

Donna

Thanks. I'll update when I know something.

Question, do you think it's something that can wait for another week?

If you are worried, I would call your NSs office, explain your symptoms, and let them decide whether you need an emergency appointment. They can look at your symptoms and know if you have any red flags.
