Update

So I got the referral to the NS, waiting for a call with the appt. When I called the office yesterday to see how long of a wait it may be they said it could be a couple of weeks or into December if I was referred to a specific Dr which I was. Dr Farook Kidwai, is who I was referred to and the lady I spoke with said that he is booked into Dec. I also received a copy of the MRI and reports, read those and my lateral and third ventricle are at the normal limits for my age, don't know what the means or what that entails. The foramen magnum is crowded and no signs of syrinx. The headaches aren't getting worse they just aren't going away no matter how much ibuprofen I take, it's just like it is a pressure headache not throbbing or pounding just dull. The ringing that has been going on in my ears for years that it attributed to hearing loss from the military and not wearing ear protection at ranges forever has been constant the last couple of months but now that I know it is a typical thing for Chiari, I guess it will subside when the decompression is done. On that note the referral does say recommend decompression suregery, hopefully we will have a date soon with the doctor and get some more answer.

You e got the ball rolling, that’s great!

My only concern is that this is at the local hospital here near Fort Drum. I can’t really find to much information about the doc online so just have to wait until I see him to find out answers. I’m worried about the care at the hospital after surgery and recovery.

Well I found a few doctors in Syracuse that I am going to go talk to in Monday while my son is in surgery for tonsils and adenoid removal. The nurse I tasked to on Thursday at that office said that I should not go through with the referral to Dr Kidwai, she said I would make a huge mistake going to him. He is a NS but not with Chiari. I asked her house many patients they have seen in Syracuse with Chiari and she said every doctor there has done at least 10 Chiari operations, makes me feel a lil better.
