Hi. I went to the Matfeild Clinic today to see the spine and brain doc. First i had a CINE MRI. I talked to the doc and he said that physical theoropy would not help any of my symptoms, He said surgery would be the only thing that helps my symptoms. Can anyone tell me what to expect before and after surgery. Im nervous about waking up in the middle of surgery and them not knowing. Any info would help!
I can't give your first hand experience, but my son had the surgery when he was 8 (he is now 10). He had no problem during the surgery and post-surgery he was in the intensive care unit for 3 days. During that time they gave him very strong pain meds, i.e. morphine for the first day and then, I believe, it was oxycontin. After surgery, he slept a lot and his appetite was diminished (that could have been due to the hospital food, as well). By the time he was ready to go home, he was asking for a play date (of course he was loopy on pain meds when he asked)! At home, he didn't even need the strong meds, just tylenol and not for very long. He had a friend over several days after. He was back at school 2 weeks later. Of course, we are talking about an 8 year old. 'Hope this is of some help.
Thanks for replying. How bad was your boys symptoms and does he have chiari malformation 1 2 3 or 4?
