I had decompression surgery two years ago and six days ago I began having severe pain in the back of my head and upper neck. I went to the ER and they told me they couldn’t really do anything other than prescribe Codine for the pain, but even that barely takes the edge off. I see my neurosurgeon on the 22 but I want to know if anyone else have had the same happen.
I had the decompression surgery 4 years ago . Within the first 3 weeks, I ended up with a horrific infection in my head. Spent 3 days in the hospital on IV antibiotics.Since then, I have suffered from severe headaches that start from the back of neck up to the front of my head. I cannot lady flat, in a bed .I am currently taking Lyrica,100mg,3 times a day, Baclofen, 10mg,3 times a day, Amitriptyline, 50 mg,at bedtime.
I also suffer from chronic insomnia, so, I take 10 mg of Abien,at night.
I suggest you go see a pain management specialist.
Sounds like cervical spine instability. I recently had cranio-cervical fusion to correct my instability 2 years after decompression. I had severe pain in back of head and neck. Are you having tingling or numbness in arms? Have you had a recent cervical spine MRI?
I had my surgery 7 years ago . I was good for about 2or3 years then my head started hurting. I had to go in and have nerve blocks done!! They worked great. They told me it would only last maybe 6 months and it has lasted a lot longer both times I went. Ask your dr about them
I go see a Nero in Nashville on the 23.I am scared to death the pain I feel I can’t explain I can’t sleep I can’t even turn my head very well. I am scared if I c this doctor she us going to say I am crazy. I had a shunt put in and they had to remove it because it wasn’t working but we’re it was placed at the pain is so bad I can’t even brush my hair.
My son had surgery on 2-7-14 and had a flare up like yours and the Neuro surgeon said it was the occipital nerve causing the problem. Headache cocktails were administered and the problem went away and if it continued surgery would be needed to separate the nerve and scare tissue that was putting pressure on the back of the nerve. it hurt to touch it. My son also has an cervical injury not related to the Chiari " that probably cause the Chiari" .
I had decompression surgery 2 years ago, lots of symptom have returned and a few new ones added. I am not sure what t expect now but have a MRI on 25/06 and consultant on 07/07 so you are not alone we have to just keep hoping something will change for us.
I had decompression surgery 3.5 years ago. I too am getting more Chiari headaches, Numbness on my rights side from shoulder to toes, I go from severe fatigue to days of insomnia. I know I need to go see a neurologist again and get another MRI done…but I’m stalling. I don’t have the money or the time to be off from work to even take care of this.
I wasn’t told that these symptoms could come back…but seeing ur post and others I see I’m not alone with reoccurring problems.
