Recovery!

ok everyone im having surgery on monday. i know its different for everyone but i have 2 questions. first how long were your hospitol stays? and how long till you were up and moving around a little.. please let me know im so nervous. i have 3 boys and just kind of want an idsea what to expect.

I was up the day following surgery and out on the 4th day.I was surprised it did’nt hurt more than it did,the recovery is slow this is not like any surgery I’ve been through. We’re dealing with the brain and it’s a strange journey. You will probably be glad you did this I’m so excited about it even though I’d like things to go faster and get on a more even plain. It is going to take time to heal so just be patient…Good luck, keep us informed.

Hi...

Tomorrow is the day!!! Try and get a good nights sleep tonight...easier said than done, I know!

My experience was : In the hospital 1 week..looking back , I think I was there a bit longer than some is b/c I had an issue with nausea...

I had no infection or CSF leaks...got my staples out with no problem....My surgery was in late August of 08...Looking back , again...I guess I must have been doing pretty darn well...we were taking 6 hr car rides to look at houses ...as we were relocating to NY State...I recently found paperwork that was dated Oct 10th , 2008...about 1 mth after I was d/c'd from the hospital....The paperwork was the offer we made on this house...We moved in November 08..I was able to pack up the entire house...I did not lift any of the boxes...My point is here, I am thinking now that I was in fairly good shape to have done all those trips, move , close on the house , ect....

Your post made me look back and I can see now that it was not all that bad!!

Just listen to your body..that would be my biggest advice to anyone having this surgery....you will know when you need to stop what you are doing and rest! You will know when you have over done it...your body will let you know!

Please let us know how you are doing...

thanks that made me feel a little better. how do you feel now a couple years after the surgery

Lesley...

I am now 4.5 yrs post decompression...My goodness, time goes by way too fast!! Anyway, I want to share with you my progress...

It was subtle...I got immediate relief from some Sx's, such as insomnia, rapid heart rate that would come out of nowhere. My other sx's, like head aches, balance, neck pain, ect...took time for me to see/feel the positive results...I guess it was getting better//slowly...day by day...My head aches did change in nature...more bearable and different than they were before surgery...that change was pretty early in recovery.

I am better than I was before the decompression..and for that I am thankful...My pain is managed through medication and gentle exercise..I continue to have balance issues...but that wax and wanes.

Are you all packed??? We are here for you..

I wanted to post today so when you come home you’ll know you we’re prayed for today as you were going through this ordeal. You take care and get well soon, life is going to get better after you get over this, think possitive.Hope you heal fast, this will change your life,it was a God send for me.Rest and take care.
