Realistic expectations of recovery?

I’m 3 months post op pretty much did zero for 3 weeks. Drove at 8 weeks. Still taking it steady fatigue easily due to start a phased return to work in 1 week. Not sure if I’m ready but going to try. My surgeon said at least 3-6 month bit can take longer. Good luck don’t expect to spring back too quick it was hard but I had unrealistic expectations. Take each day at a time. Rachel x

Hi Jennifer, after my fiance Tim had surgery he has a hard time walking had to use a cane for about a week when we walked around the house, which wasn’t very much. He was on a lot of pain pills and anti inflamitories, steroids and laxatives. He was pretty much bed and couch ridden for about a month. Will u have someone there help take care of you after surgery? I would suggest talking to yr surgeon about specifics like what color fluid is normal, how will it feel to the touch, what medications will u be on after, who to contact if u need medical advice at odd hours. I hope this helps and that your surgery is successful : )

Here if ya need to talk,
Alisha

I was in the hospital for three days. I would recomend having someone with you for a couple weeks if possible. I slept, got up to take meds and eat, and slept somemore for the first month. Nothing I ate tasted right for about 2 months. Everything salty tasted salty, everything sweet tasted like sugar. I still won't eat certain things because of how they tasted after surgery. Ofcourse everyone's experience is diferent, but I wish you the best of luck. It's been fourteen months since my decompression, the time has gone quickly. Still have some issues, but I'm doing well... you'll be fine. Hope I've helped a little. Hang in there!
