Nerve Damage?

Nerve damage? I was decompressed in November of last year (no syrinx in the cervical spine) and still have lingering issues, such as legs, arm, shoulders, back pain. I also have a few headaches here and there (but not like before surgery). I also have a problem of tingling in my right arm. I have noticed the tingling happens when I bend to the side at the waist or turn at the waist. I also have a little bit of incontinence (yeah I know). So I went to the neurologist recently and he told me that it could be nerve damage and would like to do a nerve test. Has anyone had nerve damage? What is it from? Also what is the test like? Thanks for any information you guys can give me!!!!! You guys are all amazing people! I don't know what I would do without ya...

Hi...

Sorry you are dealing with all of this...Yes, I have nerve damage as well....there are meds to help ease the symptoms...like Lyrica and Neurontin.

As far as an answer as to why I have nerve damage...not 1 doc has been able to say for sure the reason!!!

The test is not bad...they put tiny needles into the muscles to see how they react....doesn't take too long.

Keep us posted...when do you go for the test???? Good luck.

Hi Lori! I was put on the Neurontin 300 mg. 3 times a day. It is helping. I am not in as much pain as I was when I wrote my post, my legs are still the worst but my shoulders are much more comfortable and my back pain is not as bad. The tingling hasn't stopped but it is less frequent now. I am scheduled to see my neurologist again in 3 months. He said I could call him sooner and schedule a new appointment whenever I need. As of right now I have been able to sleep again, which is awesome! The neurontin makes me feel really comfortable (my entire body)...there is really no other way to describe it. I wish that I could get a reason from these docs about why this is happening to me, but it seems like every time I ask they dodge the question or just flat out tell me they don't know. Thanks so much for the reply. It is nice to know that I have support here : ) Have a wonderful day!

Ok, this is my understanding of the nerve issues. I was decompressed in December and still have lingering issues such as nerve pain, tingling etc.

When the Chiari Malformation pressed against the brain stem, it can cause damage. Your nerves stem from that area that was affect by the pressure. I have a syrinx that has caused a mountain of issues, but also have major sx from the Chiari. My NS told me that this a procedure to reduce the damage that could occur in the future. That there would be residual symptoms that would remain. Some getting better over time and others permanent. Like others have posted..."The decompression is a treatment, not a cure." Neurontin had helped me and also Amnytriptiline. I hope things et better for you.
