Help with support

Hi, my adult daughter has Chiari 1. I support her in the best way I know how. Am looking for suggestions on other ways to help her. She was diagnosed in July 2014. We do not have insurance or resources. I have written local specialists begging them to take on her case but none have responded. She has yet to see a dr! Her symptoms have progressed severely since Sept.

Thank you for listening and any suggestions welcome!

Hello, have you / your daughter applied for Medical? Have you asked the doctor who diagnosed her to see her? Since she is or was a patient that might be an option . . .

tried everything. We are waiting on disability at the moment. Thank you for responding. Daughter was diagnosed in ER and he does not have private practice. Looking for morals support suggestions more so than medical but will appreciate all.

Thanks again

Disability? Or medicaid? Disability will do nothing to help your daughter. Even if approved which will take several months to several years and will NEVER be approved based on an ER diagnoses with no medical followup or treatment, there will be an approximate 18 month wait for medicare assuming she has worked enough quarters to qualify. If she does not qualify for medicaid through either your state or federal insurance exchange, she can buy an income based insurance policy with a maximum out of pocket expense 2% - 7% of annual income including premiums co-pays and deductibles.

Fla is on the federal exchange so one application will take care of both HCA and medicaid if you daughter make es between 12K an 24 K her premium with subsidy for a "special silver plan with 250.00 deductible will be about $12.00/month. You have to file an actual application to get the subsidy amount. the following will help

I'm a ways away, but anything i can do to help............ We shouldn't have any problem finding treatment for your daughter.

Hi what symptoms is she having? Im in UK and despite our NHS we are no better at helping people with Chiari. Iv found very little that helps but finding a good pillow is important. My head is very tender and radiates heat when its bad. Showering and doing my hair is an ordeal. Im worked out that the hot water, the arm over my head position to wash my hair and the hairdryer are all aggivating factors. I get freezing so feel I need ridiculously hot showers to warm up, but Iv found turning the temp down to almost cold and having hairdryer on cold setting make it more tolerable. Also the moble phone. I struggle having any conversation holding the phone to my ear. Either it makes my ear hurt or I cant hear and the whole hunched shoulder position hurts. I realised that I have be disciplined in using it. If im rang up while Im busy and attempt continue while talking it causes my symptoms to worsen, so I either don't answer and return the call when I can sit down and think about my posture or have them on lspeaker. The very worst is automated multiple choice and music calls where you are on hold for ages and have to listen to options, , Iv learned to put the phone down turn the volume down and put it on speaker.
