Today started out a bad day. I had to stay home from work because my daughter was in so much pain she could not even sit up this morning. I got a call from the Chiari Institute in New York. They say she is a candidate and they want us to make a appointment. There is one problem I do not fly. I'm afraid of flying and claustrophobic. Just thinking about flying makes me have anxitey attack. I do not know how but some how we will get to New York. If we drove it will take 26 hours to drive there. Is there anyone else afraid of flying? What did you do so you could fly?
Thank You, but the problem is they are not Pediatric Dr. My daughter is considered a Pediatric. If anyone knows a good pediatric Dr. I live in Houston,Tx and she has seen all the Dr here that deal with CM and they even do not know what to do with her.

I have generalzied anxiety disorder and was terrified of flying so it took me forever before I finally booked a ticket for me and my husband (who was extremely excited) to go on vacation. I was sick to my stomach and having panic attacks for 3 weeks leading up to the day of flight....I was soooo scared! Guess what!? We got to the airport and I forced myself to get on the plane and I was just fine once I got there, I actually ended up loving it! My hubby on the other hand was not a fan LOL. We booked two flights from Minnesota to Nevada...the first one was only a 20 minute flight, so it prepared me for the longer one and by the time I got on the ground the first time, and realized I was still alive, I was more than ready to go again! Also, look at statistics, you would be in more danger driving than you would be flying...Also you may be able to go to the doc and get something for the anxiety of the actual day of departure. Many people fear flying so your doc I am sure has heard of this before and will know what to do for you....Good luck!
We are new to chiari. My daughter is 10 and was diagnosed 10 days ago so we are really new to this. Reading on the Internet has been a little help. But yesterday we had a first NS appointment. He is the dept head of neuro surgery at Cornell University Hospital here in NYC. He doesn’t specialize in peds but has done the decompression on children. He was wonderful and believes he can help her. I don’t think you need a doctor that specializes in ped neuro surgery. Just look into it ok?
Living here in NYC I have the best doctors in the world (in my opinion) at my hand but I was not at all impressed with the chiari institute in Long Island that i believe you are referring to. We have a second opinion in a few weeks with a different doctor in a different hospital just to ease our minds. I just didn’t get friendly feeling when talking to them on the phone.
I really can’t give advice on flying as I’m a reck on the plane. My only comfort for that ride is a Xanax and to be left alone.
