I know sometimes it's not the easiest thing to talk about but I was interested in what others deal with as far as gastrointestinal problems? I'll start I just hope this doesn't make you sick to your stomach! LOL I have always gone back and forth from constipation to the runs. I sometimes get a sharp pain that take my breath away for a minute and then it goes away. I am not hungry most of the time and eat small portions but still gain weight. My digestion is slow most of the time but I don't get heart burn or indigestion. I often get a tight feeling that wraps around my torso and is concentrated under my ribs. I have gall bladder slugishness but other than that they haven't been able to find anything else wrong with me. I am considering going to be checked out by a gastoenterologist but haven't yet. I also had bladder and incontinence issues my whole life until I had my surgery. The surgery cleared up those issues.
So if you can stomach it.......What are your digestion issues?
Hi wendyanne!
I suffer really bad with diarrheoa amd severe urgency. if i have to go… i HAVE to go lol! But it makes me feel sick and nearly pass out on the toilet.
this has happened all my life but has got worse since i had my daughter 20 months ago.
i have also had bedwetting issues all my life too.
I have found it embarrassing… but ive had that many investigations. ive had 3 colonoscopies this year! Suffered rectal bleeding… and they have found some inflammation.
they said i had crohns disease last year and gave me prednisolone… but the pain came back and decided on exploratory surgery… they found my appendix in a right old mess! Lol so they took away my crohns diagnosis - phew!
But sadly its all coming back… so awaiting more test results
I dont think my issues are related to chiari… as it wont cause the bleeding or inflammation (i literally just passed blood with mucous… ive never felt so ill in my life) and has to have the inside of my colon lazered to stop the bleeding
(Sorry or the gross imagery) but just thought i’d explain it all… so to differ from chiari
Interesting question. I had my gallbladder out in '05 and don't really have any of these issues anymore. I wonder if there is a connection between Chiari and gastro issue. I know there are several of us that are Vitamin deficient due to gastric absorbtion issues.
GallBladder surgury was a breeze. I had to be at the out patient surgery place at 7:30 am and was back at home by 12:30 pm the same day. I even walked from the operating table to the recovery room because the midget wheel chair they brought looked more painful to get in and out of than just walking.
I can say that little organ can hurt like the dickens when it need to come out. I had a golf ball size stone.

As I was reading I thought gall bladder - then you said it. For the record best surgery ever!!! Only one I ever have had that actually cured a problem and didn't create new ones. And I had it at a total Rinky dink hospital outside of ocean city md. How's this for indelicate - if it feels like a big fart would cure you - get that checked. Another check is if it feels better to stand than sit. CAT scan -sludge is not nothing. Just so you know it doesn't have to be blocked to cause issues. Ps - we all complain about the medical system - I told my surgeon the next day mind you that I was scared to go home - he shrugged and said then just stay another day or two. I stayed as long for laparoscopic gall bladder surgery as brain surgery. Rinky dink was pretty good in this case!! Lol
It's so funny you say that. When ever I used to run errands I knew where every bathroom was too. I'd usually try and go first thing when I went in a store. I waited a long time to talk to someone about my stomach issues. By the time I did I had convinced myself I had a horrible disease. I felt the same way. I couldn't add anything to my plate. I still worry and may get checked out further.
So glad you're feeling better.

Wendy - like you I had major bladder issues until I had my surgery a few weeks ago. I would joke that I knew where every restroom was in town b/c I always had to go. Now I go a lot less & it is great! The verdict is still out on the stomach issues though. I have also always been cursed with stomach issues too. I seem to swing from the runs to constipation. I almost hate to eat when we are traveling or out somewhere b/c sometimes it hits me immediately. Just another reason to have to run to the bathroom. I have never seem a doc about it b/c quite frankly it is embarrassing & I have had enough other issues that I didn't want to add one more to have to deal with. Post op I haven't had the runs yet but of course with 2 surgeries in 2 months I have dealt with the stop ups quite a bit but I would hope that is just b/c of the drugs. I am hoping that has gotten a little better as well. I am really tired of bathrooms.
I had bed wetting issues and bladder problems pretty bad until I was 12 and then intermitten through my life. I also had an emergency appendectomy in 2002. I haven't had a colonoscopy but I think I am going to ask for one. I'm also going to take Abby's advice and talk to my PCP about POTS. I hope that you find some answers also. Thanks for talking about a difficult subject.

Friends,
With the issues you are having, please do not over look the symptoms in POTS. I too have a lot of these issues. I have to stay very close to a bathroom, and urgency, yes, goodness. I can relate. Getting cold sweat and near blacking out sometimes is not fun. POTS causes your intestines to be slower. You can also have places in your intestines that are really sore. I have that too. Chiari caused my POTS according to the Cardiologist. But, your symptoms are very familiar to what I have too. Never hurt to mention it to your doctor, because a lot of us Chiarians also have POTS.
It's so good to know that things got better for you both after your Gall Bladder surgery and it was an easy surgery to recover from. I have been putting off seeing a specialist because I had heard of people having issues after they had it removed. It's bothered me for so long. I would love to be done with all the issues from it. Thanks.
