Hi every one,
I don’t believe I could feel any dumber in my entire life! Our weather has bee a little “bipolar” here over the last week! Rain, snow and ice storms one day, 60 degrees the next, now 8 inches of snow and below zero temps! I’ve been really careful when I walk my service dog, even wearing my “studded snow tires” (little cleats that go on the bottom of my shoes) to protect myself. Well… I guess I can’t protect myself from my absentmindedness!! I came into the hall on the throw rug, and kicked my feet together, right to left, trying to kick off the snow. I’m not sure what happened but my right knee poped so loud, and kept going ouround the side of my leg. At the same time my right SI joint “locked up”. I couldn’t move. I managed to slip the SI joint back and reached down and managed to get the knee cap back. Still having trouble keeping it “tracking” as I walk. I’ve never had problems with the right knee, only the left (just had surgery on the left a couple of monts ago, still have to wear a brace). My husband being a PT wants me to go see my PCP but I’m not sure. With in two days of having problems with my right one he rushed me to the ortho doc and I was in surgery (before knowing about EDS dx, it was a failure). The pain is awful. Any suggestions?
I called the dr. I have an appointment in two hours. I will let you know.
Thanks
Barb
Keep us posted on your doctor's visit! Sorry to hear of your injury!
It turne out to be a MCL tear. They admitted me to repair it, but the surgeon refuses to do the repair because of the poor results from my right knee repair in June, due to EDS. I guess he wants to try wait about a week with no weight bearing and braces.??? I’m not sure if these dr.s even talk to each other at all!!
At least I got to go home before the snow started again!
I have an update. Ever since I injured my knee it has continued to dislocate daily. It doesn’t even “track” in the proper place anymore. My orthopedic surgeon wants to preform a patella realignment. This is done by removing the tibia tuberosity with the ligament attached and moving it and reattaching it. This preserves the soft tissue and EDSers are suppose to do a lot better wi these types of surgeries. I’m really pleased with the fact that he went and did his homework and found a way to help! I’m just not happy that I have to undergo another surgery! Lol! I’m really worried though, this usually a stay in the hospital, but mine is going to be outpatient. I’m allergic to most narcotics so the pain control would be minimal. The only one I can take is demoral and phenergan and the hospital refuses to even use it at all (only 1 pharmacy even carries the pill form of it here), so I have to fill the prescription and bring it with me so I can take it after I’m discharged, because I can’t bring my own meds into the hospital.
I’m also really anxious because I’m going to have to use my wheelchair for 8 weeks (no weight bearing). I worked really hard to get out of that thing after my decompression surgery! Just makes me a little squeamish.
My surgery is next Wednesday, the 6 of March.
