So a few days ago I posted with some questions as I was waiting for results of a cervical spine MRI. I finally received those results via the patient portal from my insurance company. I have yet to hear back from the neurosurgeon despite the results being in and leaving a message for him. In any case, I think I understand the results but since this is new to me, I was hoping someone who has been through this could help me interpret the following results.
“Marked cerebellar tonsillar ectopia measuring approximately 19 mm with tonsils extending towards the posterior arch of C2. At the mid body of C2 within the cord there is a single tiny punctate focus of elevated T2 signal, this may represent slight dilation of the central canal. Other than at this single area there is no definite abnormal T2 signal within the cord to suggest syrinx cavity.”
In a nutshell, I take that to mean that there is no syrinx which means that I don’t need surgery right now? I’m still not sure I even understand exactly what a syrinx is. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
