Dental Issues

My question is... Has anyone else had problems with dental work?

My story...I have struggled my whole life with dental problems.I had buck teeth as a kid and because of my Chiari I fell and broke them on several ocassions throughout my life. I had braces and head gear for buck teeth that made my face and mouth hurt terribly. I was diagnosed with Chiari after 4 1/2 years of pain and headaches after dental surgury made my symptoms much worse.

I have always had soft teeth and then TMJ complicated by my Chiari, face pain and grinding my teeth. My teeth broke constantly but I had to put off and slow down serious dental work because of pain from Chiari. I would always be flaired up for a week or two after having work done.

After spending tremendous amounts of money trying to save my teeth yesterday I had to have half of my remaining top teeth removed and I have an appointment to have the other half removed in a week (if I can recover in time) and get dentures. I am so upset that I am so young (under 50) and need dentures.

I'm so sorry <3 I also had braces and headgear for years and now I have had problems with my teeth, constantly... got them fixed and pulled some a couple years ago and now I'm right back to needing a lot of issues fixed. The problem now is that I don't even think I can get any work done on them until I get my neck fixed unless the Dentist is extremely mindful. I'm certain I will need more pulled but there's not much you can do ya know :P yeah that answer sucks. The thing that bugs me the most is being treated like a drug addict like any of this was my fault, never mind the fact that I'm not a drug addict. And after being so down for so long I don't have the money to get decent dental care so it's usually just safer and easier to get teeth pulled. I'm sure it will be better in the future but this sucks for us.

love<3 And don't you dare stop smiling just because of all this bullpucky :)

Biil,

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement and love. I've cried for days/weeks over the loss of my teeth and now am in unbelievable pain. You are so right. If the dentist had taken my Chiari into consideration and given me proper pain medication after every procedure I could have gone in more. You are right they treat you like a drug addict. They took out 6 teeth yesterday and I had to literally beg for something stronger than a muscle relaxant. It's humiliating.

I was the only one in my family with buck teeth and after being diagnosed with Chiari I thought maybe it had something to do with my teeth and mouth issues.

I wasted alot of money trying to save my teeth and as difficult as it is losing my teeth it's doublely awful after all the wasted time and money. After I get my dentures and they have settled in I will try and update you. My teeth have always hurt me and atleast I won't have that problem anymore...Brightside? Actually I still have most of my bottom teeth.

I read about your neck fusion. I don't know anything about it but I have read that several people here have so I hope you get some input and help....I always try and laugh and smile through the bull puckey! : )

Thank You Abby as always for the words of encouragement and prayer. It means alot especially today.

Bless you WendyAnne,
I too have TMJ and wore braces. My dentist says I am his favorite problem patient. I had a bone/tooth absess and did not know it until my jaw swelled up. I was having major chiari pain during that same peroid, and it was hard to know which one was hurting worse.
Take care and please know we are here for you.
Praying for you.
Abby

What a min. This is connected to Chiari to?!!? I had braces growing up, head gear (damn thing) and retainer. My teeth are constantly causing pain but I just figured that it was cause i drink to much soda

I didn't wear braces, but I've had a lot of problems with soft, easily chipped teeth and a TMJ disorder. I recently was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

Rainbow, I often wonder whether I do. I always was very flexable and have terrible muscle joint pain. My kids also have muscle issues. My teeth have always been soft and break so easily even in the back where I didn't hit them by falling. I am going to ask to be tested for it now that I have new doctors who listen.
