Yesterday my little sis was diagnosed with Chiari. This now makes my daughter and sister both have it. I am going to get tested and have my other 2 kids tested. Does anyone else on here share this with any other family members.
Hi Amanda,
Sorry that your sister and daughter both have this!!! From what I have learned it can be hereditery.....My sister has awful H/A's..but thankfully ...when she had her MRI..clear for Chiari.
When are you and your other kids getting tested??? are you suffering with Sx's???
Keep us updated, ok??
Peace,
Lori
so far i am the ONLY one in my family who has it...of course no one else either wants to admit it or be tested.
so sorry your family has the hereditery genetics, but on the otherside of the coin atleast they will understand what another is going through and wont be too fast to disreguard their concerns,pain,etc..
I am also the only one in my family who has it...In fact, I don't even personally know anyone with it. It wasn't until I joined this group that I realized that it really is not just me!

Lori, my sister has had headaches since the birth of her youngest son. but we have miagrains in our family, so we always thought thats what it was. She recently started to drool on her self, and she almost passes out when her arms are reached up above her head. I knew it was Chiari as soon as she told me her symptoms. Her mri just confirmed it. I have headaches almost daily, but have learned to live with them. I also go through bottles of ibuprofen pretty quicklt. My oldest daughter has a couple of the symptons. We will find out within the next couple months.

Hi Amanda.....
Just checking to see how things are going???? What are the docs saying??? Keep us posted.
Peace,
Lori
No one in my family seems to understand it. I tell them the symptoms and that it may be genetic, they have the same problems, but (without a test) say there is no way they could have Chiari and they refuse to even get tested. I believe it runs on my mom's side of the family.
Jessie,
No one does understand it until they actually have to understand. Even some specialist look and treat you like you are from Mars with a CM diagnosis. My daughter was tested two years ago, thankfully it was negative. If you ever need to talk let us know. Please keep us updated on you & your family's status.
Wishing You Peace,
Tracy Z.
My daughter and I both have it.
It really wouldn't surprise me if my mom has it. She has been experiencing about half of my symptoms for years (and maybe more we haven't discussed). However, she doesn't have insurance so she won't get tested. Any of the instructions and tips I get, I tell her hoping they might help her a bit.
