Chiari and C-section delivery, which pain relief is recommended

I wanted to know what is better to do during c-section, spinal block or going under general anesthesia. My doctors seem to keep going back and forth on the topic. I am extremely confused and do not know what to do. They said with a spinal there is an extremely small risk of spinal puncture which causes CSF leakage but if it is punctured then I would most likely need to get a blood patch.Going under general the risk is inserting the breathing tube when most pregnant women are swollen and have acid reflux and also the fact that they have 2 minutes to get the baby out before the baby feels the affects of the anesthesia which puts a lot of pressure on the doctors preforming the c-section. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi I have chiari and so opted for c-section when I delivered the baby last may. We kept the hospital anesthesiologist informed about it. He spoke to my neurosurgeon and they decided to go forward with spinal block. It worked out well for me.

It helps to have an experienced anesthesiologist.

Thanks for the reply. So you had no worsening symptoms after? See i dont understand why they keep changing their minds.

Hi, I had general anesthesia with my first child and had no issues with it, with my second I had an epidural and my legs were completely numb but I got the feeling back in my stomach during my surgery. Both my children were born healthy with no problems. This was in the 80’s, maybe there’s a better way now.
