Can Chiari cause rhythmic head movements?

I've noticed that after any amount of time sitting or standing, my head (and sometimes even my upper torso) begins to bob slightly toward the left in time with my pulse. It isn't dramatic but is significant enough to be distracting to me and for my wife to have noticed it when looking at me.

The intensity of bobbing seems connected with the feeling of pressure in my head and with severity of headache I am experiencing.

Anyone else have a symptom like this?

Thanks for responding. My neurologist suspects Chiari 0 but doesn't feel that she is qualified to diagnose it. She has written me a referral and I sent my materials to Wisconsin Chiari Center a few days ago and am anxiously awaiting their response. If it were up to me, I'd diagnose myself because after eighteen years of searching, Chiari is the first thing that has made any kind of sense of the jumble of symptoms that have become my life.

This head motion is just this weird symptom that we were wondering about. I have both vertical and horizontal nystagmus so I hadn't paid too much attention to the world bouncing around until I noticed that the back of my head seemed to be moving against the chair I was sitting on. I asked my wife and she said she could both see it and feel it with her hand on the back of my head. After looking online, I found out it can happen with inter cranial hypertension so I imagine that it could be connected with Chiari?

At this point, I am equally afraid of getting a diagnosis and of getting none. It seems strange, but I just want to know what the problem I have is called.

Yes, i have experienced the same thing. I have never heard anyone else mention this symptom, so i thought it was just me. I also notice it when my head pressure gets really bad, or after I get super stressed out. Never asked the Dr. about it so I'm not sure why it happens, but would be curious to see if anyone else has experienced this and what their Dr's have told them.

I'm so glad to hear it isn't just me. I would also be interested to find out if anyone has asked a doctor about it and what, exactly, causes it to happen. It's such a weird sensation.

Yes, it is. For me, it's embarrasing when I'm out in public and people stare. I had to sign some paperwork a few weeks ago and the lady behind the desk turned to my husband and said 'is she ok?' All I wanted to do was get it over with and get out of there. At first, I didn't think it was noticeable but my Husband and kids ask me if I'm ok when they see it. I have even tried to control it, but can't. Thank you for posting this question.

Yes! It is so hard to explain to people. I always feel like I have to give a neurology 101 lecture just so they can understand. Who has time to do that every time you have to sign paperwork? It also bothers me a lot at night. My head rocks back and forth on the pillow and I also hear my heartbeat rustling my hair against the pillow, which is surprisingly loud. Thanks for chiming in. I am starting to feel less and less alone in this.
