Hi, my daughter Hunter had her second Chiari surgery in May 2013. The headaches are better but she has had a lot of burning in her spine.. We see her Chiari doctor in Colorado in Nov. Hunter is 16 years of age. What could this burning be?
Thanks, Missy
I second the tethered cord possibility, also a syrinx can cause symptoms too. I’m sorry she’s still having problems, so disheartening, but I’m glad you are taking her to CO! Dr Oro?

My son, Michael (14), was diagnosed with Chiari 11 years ago, and he's had 2 decompressions and multiple other brain/spine surgeries. Even with our regular MRI testing to monitor his syrinx and chiari, docs did not notice scoliosis in Michael's spine. After the PT noticed a curve, the ortho ran simple x-rays and diagnosed Michael with scoliosis....WOW...were we surprised. The MRI testing can see SO much, but NOT the curve. Because scoliosis is common among children with chiaris, I believe that x-rays should be a part of their routine diagnostic testing. Please, understand that I am NOT saying that Hunter has scoliosis, but I do want to suggest that you ask your docs for yearly x-rays of her spine.
Hunter and I will be traveling to Colorado on Monday to see her NS Dr. John Oro. MRI on Tuesday and doctor visits both Tuesday and Wednesday. I hate this monster that lives inside of my daughters body! Wish us luck!
I wish your daughter luck! Please let us know how it goes
Hunter and I traveled to see her Chiari doctor in Colorado, Dr.Jon Ore.. MRI was great! God is Good! The burning pain in Hunter back was a Ovarian cyst that is bleeding. We see a OBGYN doctor tomorrow to find out what is next! I can live with this! Thank you, for all your prayers!
I’m happy it’s not cord or brain, best if luck!
