My daughter was told 7/9/13 from her neurologist that there is nothing more for him to do so he is sending her back to her neurosurgeon. Her neurologist only tried tropamex up to 200mg twice a day. I have had friends an family members tell me to get a second opinion from a different neurologist. Should i go for a second opinion or go c next thursday what her neurosurgeon suggests?? She was only diagnosed with chiari back in april is this too soon to think about surgery?? What r sum opinions on here??? Thanks for ur help
Hi Kim,
I think that I would go see the neurosurgeon next Thursday. Just because you’re going to see a neuro surgeon it doesn’t signafiy that surgery is definitely going to happen. They just seem to be better educated about Chiari and treatments. Neurologists are not as knowledgable about Chiari (in my opinion and experience). You really got a good neurologist if he isn’t afraid to admit that he knows what he knows and more importantly knows what he doesn’t know!
I’m so sorry that your daughter has to go through this Chiari journey, and am praying that she is feeling better soon.
Barb
Ty barb very helpful i will go c him an go from there although i have been doing research an her neurosurgeon comes very highly recomended so we will c its our second time there the first time he wanted to make sure it was the chiari an not depression or anxiety causing her symptoms an the neurologist is convienced it is the chiari an nothing else again ty an i know only the very strong will face the chiari journey although i know its not a fun one god bless
Kim,
Definitely keep your appointment next week. You can always get a second opinion. I totally agree with Barb.
How is your daughter doing?
My neurologist didn’t really have a clue it was the neuro surgeon who had more knowledge they will guide you as to if and when surgery is required and when it is best to monitor. I wish you all the best. Please find time for your daughter to express her feelings the emotional aspects are often as hard as the physical ones of this invisible illness.
Definitely keep that appointment with the Neurosurgeon. You can get a second opinion at a later date. In my case, I was diagnosed in at the beginning of March (years ago) & had the surgery at the end of March. It isn't too soon to think about surgery...it all depends on the severity. I'd be guided by what the surgeon thinks is best. Every case is different, time wise, I've found.
Dont.waste.ur.time.with.neurologists. they.are.useless!!!
Get second.opinions.on the.neirosurgeons too!!!
