My son is doing really well. We got home yesterday afternoon and had a great night sleep. In his own bed. He went on a car ride with me to drop off his brothers at school. He spent the day watching game shows. Lol they gave him a muscle relaxer that he took around 2p. The only pain he felt today wAs on his tailbone and legs. I’m assuming from those comfy hospital beds. Ibuprofen helped that. I can honestly say I’m surprised how well he is doing but he is 15 and they do recoup a lot faster. Thanks everyone for checking up on him.
I'm glad to hear your son is recovering so well! :)
I hope your son is doing really well. My son had decompression surgery on Dec. 14, 2012. He was 13 at the time. He's doing great - all I can say is: kids heal really fast. It seemed like he bounced back from surgery faster than I bounced back from sleeping on the hospital floor!
My son missed a week of school after his surgery then they were out for the holiday break. When he returned to school on Jan. 2, he wore a shirt that said "I had brain surgery - what's your excuse?"
Sending good wishes your way - hang in there. Take care.
@RachelF my son is doing fantastic I can’t believe what a difference it has been. We has coughed, sneezed and we have laughed with tears and he has not gotten any pain. Before surgery he would be in such pain and in tears. I pray that he will continue to heal and be symptom free. He goes back to the NS on Feb 4 the and should be back to school the 5th and be able to enjoy the rest of his Freshmen year. It’s so funny that you mentioned that shirt. I’m going to cut some iron on vinyl today and make him that exact shirt. It’s perfect for him. With all the pain and suffering he went through his first semester he still managed a 4.667 grade point average. Thank you everyone for all the thoughts and prayers. I now feel like I can possible start dealing with my own Chiari pains.
I know not everyone’s outcome is not the same and sometimes time changes things but today on a drive home my son said he felt so grateful that he felt so good and that his outcome so far was good. He said he knows things can change but he hasn’t felt so good in so long he was amazed. I just about cried. We are just over 4 weeks post op and I wanted to also post a picture of how his incision looks. I know before he had surgery he was a little worried what it would look like. ( he is a teen and all) I also wanted to once again thank everyone for all the prayers during and after his surgery. I am so thankful for this forum and all the help and knowledge it has given me for both my son and for my own progressing Chiari symptoms.
